I've gone back to focusing 99% on Korean. I've gotten my Japanese up to a level where I can play games without feeling totally lost. Going forward I'll only have time for one language at a time so I'll just be trying to keep my Japanese around the same level while slowly learning more words.
Korean on the other hand will finally get the focus it deserves from me.
My first two goals will be "extreme."
Read 1000 Korean articles.
Write 100 entries on Lang 8 in Korean.
I'll be copying/pasting every word I don't know in the articles to be looked up later. Also I'll have a little more time to watch Korean dramas now (just finished Fantasy Couple within a week. Han Ye Seul is hot...all the motivation I ever needed lol.)

Yeah, I've decided to drop Japanese and pick it up back in the future. Japanese isn't a language you can learn on the backburner (because I tend to forget too many kanji while putting it second fiddle to Korean) and I really want to improve my Korean more.
Lately I've been reading a lot of articles about Han Ye Seul (as she's a goddess in my eyes and my favorite actress) so I've gotten in a loooooot of reading practice and even wrote some about it.

So a couple of days ago I started following the first 4 steps of Arekkusu's plan to improve oral fluency. Watching a lot of dramas hasn't really helped with my speaking...it just made me a fan of a lot of hot actresses. So I pick an episode I've already seen and go to a random point in the episode and watch for about ten seconds and pause and talk out loud and explain what's going on. Since quoting what the characters is saying is easier for me I have skipped that and have tried explaining what the characters were doing, the location, the mood, what's going on, etc. I do it for a few minutes at a time. While doing so, I look up words/grammar that I can't think of in Korean and copy the Korean words to another Word document. Then I say the sentence fully in Korean (I don't say the sentence in English first, I just look up every unknown word I wanna say before I say the sentence.) I repeat it a few times until I feel it's good enough (as I don't wanna say the same sentence 100 times until I think it's perfect) and move on and watch for another 15 seconds or so.
Also I have started to think and talk out loud more to myself in Korean. I figure I'll nail the basic crap and try to incorporate grammar points I know passively into this activity so I can use them too.
The good thing about this is that it is easier to remember the words you have to look up.
I'll also be working on my writing too, as I can get corrections if I'm using any grammar wrong. Last couple times I wrote entries on Lang 8 it was just spelling mistakes/typos instead of anything really important.

I don't have time to spend a lot of time on learning languages. This semester (and from here on out) will be busy for me, so I don't really have time to actively learn the language aside from practicing what I know and grammar points I'm weak at. It'll mainly go back to being passive (and yes, I know active is better than passive learning, but I don't have the time.) So, I'll go back to also watching Japanese dramas/movies too instead of abandoning it. So yeah, might be like 2015 now before I become fluent in either lol, but that's life (especially as an accounting student.)

If you've made enough progress in the language that you can understand a lot of the dramas you're watching you might be surprised at how that helps you. I haven't actively studied Spanish in a while but it's getting better just through passive learning on the side. Of course Spanish is a whole lot easier than an Asian language.

I think it may help with Korean but my Japanese isn't as good so I probably need more active study before I could benefit from a more passive approach.

Back. I honestly didn't feel like studying for the past month. Still watched Korean shows though.

Welcome back! You're a student, yes? You already have a lot of studying to get done. It's completely understandable that you'd want/need a break from voluntary additional study, even from something find enjoyable. Sometimes, you just *need* a break.
