That comment was mostly about the "every 5 minutes" part, but I couldn't resist throwing in the "in English" jab while I was at it...ㅋㅋㅋ
I've never really seen much of a point to joining the TAC challenges myself, though I get why others do. Your comment about Diadem reminds me of something. I've watched a few of the Diadem subbed versions of T-ara Dreamgirls and, while they are decent, they are not quite to the level of teams like SoshiSubs, Sweet Melodix, iSubs, WithS2, etc. In fact, some of the translating appears to have been done by a non-native English speaker as there was quite a bit of "Engrish" in several scenes. In one particularly bad section (during episode 4, IIRC), I literally had no idea what point they were trying to convey with the translation that was chosen. If you can completely lose a native English speaker, then something isn't quite right. Also, they are bad to simply skip a dialog section for no obvious reason. Overall they are still good subs (I've definitely seen *far* worse), but they are still a bit "off" at times. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I think they mainly rely on Chinese > English subbers from Singapore to translate. I don't think they have many Korean > English subbers.
I mainly do TAC to keep myself motivated, as 2011 was a pretty lazy year for me, where I went a few months trying to learn both Korean and Japanese, then just Japanese, then just Korean, and never advancing much. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Ahh...that could explain it...especially if they are working from sources that have already been translated once (to Chinese). Some of the most confusing subtitling I ever saw while watching through 패밀리가 떴다 was on files where they had obviously been working from a Chinese version (since there was quite a bit of Chinese text on screen in those video clips). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Man, it's only been two days since I posted but my log was already on page 3. That's TAC for you, well, for the first month before half of the people drop out.
Lately my main activity has been speaking out loud. I've been reading the dialogue from drama scripts (I have scripts from about 30 dramas downloaded), books, and the dialogues in webtoons. I've probably practiced more speaking in the past 3 days than I have in the past 3 years. I plan on trying to create my own sentences through speaking. For now I have been going through my grammar book and using the grammar points I'm weakest with to practice. Been writing more too. Even if it's just 4-6 sentences here and there, it's more than I've written in the past couple of months, and if I try to do it everyday, it'll get easier for me. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Where have you been grabbing those drama scripts? Are they in a normal document format or one of those annoying "Korean reader" formats like I've seen so many of them use?
I'm also rethinking the TAC / Team TAC thing. Is there really anything special involved other than studying like normal, updating your log at least somewhat regularly, and setting an official target goal for the end of the year? I'm still not sure I see the point in general, but it might be worth the shot for motivation reasons (and as an excuse to actually set some concrete targets). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

You'll have to download a program to read most of them. I get my drama scripts from Dramabeans. Dramabeans also links to the software program you need to read the scripts. Most of them are older dramas. Then in the comments section people post links to more recent dramas.

I find all of this active studying way more helpful than the passive studying I've been doing. Using grammar/words I'm not comfortable with in sentences has helped me learn them more than just looking at a word by itself or in a sentence. The speaking practice I've been doing has helped me pick up grammar and articles that I hadn't caught as much before when watching dramas and movies. Plus it's helping with overall comprehension. Words that I don't know sound like words instead of just sounds now.
I still go through this K --> E dictionary I have for the passive vocabulary, but if I try and use 15-20 words a day not in my active vocabulary every day, that will help me a lot more than when I was learning 100 words a day passively. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Mainly focusing on Korean lately. I'll get back to writing tomorrow, as I spent most of the past few days watching dramas and listening to Japanese music.
