The optimized deck comes in the Kanji Odyssey kanji order. Which means that you will
learn words with the same
kanji and a different meaning together. The "regular" Core seems to have a some what random order as
far as that
is concerned. There has also been some talk that difficulty gap between step 2 and step 3, for the Core
available on
anki, is huge, so a lot of people have problems when reaching step three. On the official iKnow website
Core has
since been reworked where some of the words have been taking out, or moved to a later part of the
program.

That's interesting. On the website I got to halfway through step 2.. or the 1000 to 2000. I skipped the first
1000. Oddly their their placement test put me at step 1 but I found that I knew 95 % already. And very well
at that. The next step is quite harder for me. Anyway I think the optimized would be a better order but if it
has kana on side one then I can't really deal with that. The Lana wasn't even on a separate field that you
could remove.. it was part of the sentence. Annoying.

If you take a look at the deck through the anki browser you will see that there are a lot of fields, for example one
that is called Sentence-Kana which is the whole sentence in kana. There is another one called Expression which has
the Sentence in Kanji without furigana added after the words. You would just have to adjust the card layout
accordingly :)

Thanks for the help. I saw the fields and I thought like you are saying that I just had to adjust the fields. I figured if I deleted the kana/furigana fields then I'd be good. It deleted them but that had no impact on the card. At least on side one which was what i was focusing on. Here's the question prompt (it's the 1st card in the deck):

( )はとってもいい 話[はなし]だ。

This is from the sentence-clozed field. (why sentence-clozed I don't know but whatever). The sentence clozed field makes no reference to other fields and as far as I can see it has the kana for 話 typed right in next to it... not a variable or anything it's typed in. Maybe that's because this card is the 1st one and later on they get harder and it's not included? Either way I don't want to see it at all. I didn't really want to go in and delete the offending kana from every field as it came up either. Am I missing something?

This is for Anki 1 but I think the system is still the same.
Maybe this tutorial can explain it better than I can.
Basically, you need to change what is inside {{Field}} on your card templet to the Field name you want to display. So
instead of {{Sentence-Clozed}} you can put {{Expression}} on the front side of the card in order to get the whole
sentence in kanji.

I hope that helps.

In the card browser, click the "preview" button and then move around the fields as you
please. :)

The kind that doesn't have the kanji reading on side 1. I rather like
sentence decks atm too but the former is definitely a must.
