Going to write my speech for this years Japanese Speech contest. I kept waiting and waiting hoping I'd get a good idea if I waited more but that didn't happen. I think I'll be one of the mediocre ones. I feel kinda bad because it doesn't look like anyone from our class will be doing anything special. There's still hope but I think last year was a better year for the speech contest.

I wrote a short little speech on how I got interested in studying
foreign languages. These things are super short. There's no room to
include anything you want to say. If course when I start memorizing
ill be thankful for that. I have to translate it next.. its just English right
now. Ill post it here when the Japanese is done.

I don't see myself doing much srs work now that I'm full swing for
this speech. That's gonna stink getting back into it later but oh well.

Timeboxing is your friend! Set your Anki to review from shortest interval first (so you see the cards you know the least well first), set new cards to zero, and set timeboxing to review the deck for 5 minutes only. Then get on with your speech with no SRS worries!

I agree about the time boxing tip, even though I haven't really set up my deck like that. What I do is: I tell myself I
only have to review for 5 minutes before I can do something fun like watch a movie or relax.
Best of luck with your speech, that sounds really interesting. Is that a regular thing for your class?

Well today I didn't get any reviews in. I didn't even force myself at lunch. Whenever I think Japanese my
mind goes right to this speech. Once it's written maybe I'll be able to focus better.

It is fun. I don't have a good idea or anything unfortunately. I think I'm too nervous to relax and come up with
a good idea. But it's cool nonetheless. I suppose I could put it on youtube later. And it seems to be a regular
thing for Japanese Language studies all over. They try to get the most prestigious judges they can for these
things and somehow a lot of people who seem like they have much better things to do agree to do it. I think
it's a cultural thing - I think giving speeches in language study is something East Asians do. I heard about an
English speech contest for North Korean students who had recently immigrated to South Korea and how
surprised the South Koreans were at the enthusiasm and skill of the participants.

I'm really tired. What's new I guess. I finished my speech for the contest. I wrote out an English draft, then
translated it and then put it on lang 8 for proofing. They changed a lot of it a day my teacher changed at of
that version. But it's done. I'm just too sleep deprived to memorize it. I'm pretty sure he'll want me to
practice it I class. That'll be a joy. This weekend I'm sure I'll have time and energy to better memorize it.

Oh my grammar dictionaries came. I'm probably gonna read them cover to cover although they're really
meant as reference.

Here's the latest version of the speech... it's cheesy. Unfortunately my writing tends to be on the cheesy side.
