I'm giving up on learning to write all the words I know and am learning in Japanese. The reviews were kinda
brutal. I think SRS took 3x as long and I am a bit disappointed to give it up but happy I zipped through 400
reviews in about an hour and a half. This will free up time to actually do n2 workbooks. I'm supposed to be
sleeping now so I'll end it here.

Please do tell. I just wanted to find certain words in my kanji deck (once which have
just cropped up in NHK News) and I can't work out how to easily make them appear in my
next review. (I can do it, I presume, by filtering on each of the words and doing it that
way but surely there's a point-and-click way of doing this?)

Thanks

Sure.. but I use Flashcards Deluxe for my SRS instead of Anki so it's definitely different. But if you're using the same app.. the way I am doing it is when I am in review mode in a deck, at the bottom right is a little icon that shows a couple cards on top of each other. Tap that to bring up a list of the whole deck.. There's a lot of options here but at the top is a search bar. Just enter the name of the vocab word (or you could use the English or anything to search..) and you should see the card right after.. then if you tap the card you want to add it pulls up the info for the card. What you want to change is the the card's status which is kind of in the middle. If it says pending then it's not in your active batch. Just tap it to bring up the options to change it. You can select active here. You could also change it to new instead of pending. I wasn't sure which one to pick but choosing active worked and I don't know what new does.

Well I have core 6k deck along with the J Sensei rip deck both setup. And I was a bit disappointed to find that 90% (or so it seems) of the sentences in the Sensei deck are exactly the same as in Core... Were they that lazy in making their software? The audio is a different speaker is all. Then there's the 10% that are different. I don't know how many new words it adds since it is over 6k for sure but it's not too often I don't find a word in Core but do find it in Sensei. It happens sometimes though so I like having both decks on my SRS to pull words from.

As I was doing reviews today I was really missing that I wasn't drawing the kanji out and I couldn't help thinking that I wasn't learning as well. But I got through 400 reviews in less than two hours. That would take like 6 hours if I were making myself draw the kanji and not just read the kanji. I'm trying to think of a compromise.

As far as I know the J-Sensei deck is also know as Core10k so I assume both are based off of the same material. Did you find the JSensei deck on the shared decks?

今日は同じクラスに参加してびっくりしまし た!楽しかったですよ。またクラスで一緒に 勉強しましょう。

As for drawing kanji, I find that in order to remember how to read kanji, I don't need to practice writing them. But in order to remember how to write them, it does require regular drilling. In the end I decided I'd just go as electronic as possible and not worry about writing too much. It's something I'll get back to once I've finished learning everything else I need to know!

WHAT!!!!
You were in that class??? I had no idea!! Man you're better with names I still think of you as G-bod and I'd have to hunt down your real name.. ah man. I would have tried harder in the class. I slacked off spacing about how stupid is to think of having a disaster and calling it an opportunity to make your home disaster resistant or whatever. In a way it's an opportunity and people might say it that way in English too but I look at that and think it's dumb..

And then I botched my sentence about it being about time I learned how to say subtitles in Japanese.. and then the teacher misunderstood me thinking I watched subtitles and was starting to pick out a word now and then but I meant that I was watching without subtitles and I didn't want to make the effort to correct what I said.

Oh well. I got another class in 2 minutes. I can only take classes at 2 pm my time on Fridays though.

Surely the effort you make shouldn't depend on the identity of the other students...and ok, so now I know what your Japanese sounds like, but that just means you're not allowed to be shy about it any more. You've also heard mine, warts and all, so it works both ways!

I did wonder if we'd ever end up in the same class, due to the combination of our work schedules and the time difference. The class yesterday was at 9pm in the UK, which is just perfect for me after work, so I tend to do the mid week classes at this time.
