Well I'm hoping I did something I shouldn't have to cause it or misunderstood the many many very familiar
cards that popped up today on my break. So here's from the anki documentation.
Suspend Card / Note
Hides a card or all of the note’s cards from review until they are manually unsuspended (by clicking the
suspend button in the browser). Useful if you want to avoid reviewing the note for some time, but don’t want
to delete it. If cards were in learning when they are suspended, they are moved back to the new card queue
or review queue.
So if cards were in learning when they are suspended it doesn't count? Ie it isn't suspended it just goes to the
learning queue for tomorrow? I'm not really sure what the learning queue is but I'm guessing it's new cards
that I've seen but haven't reviewed x amount of times yet. It's looking like I need to delete these things?
I'll just suspend them again and hope for the best. I deleted a couple but in reality I might go back in a few
months and review to make sure I can read the kanji without problems.

Well for my main vocabulary I'm back to Flashcards Deluxe. But I'm going to be using Anki for RTK and some grammar decks I downloaded. That's assuming I can get all the media onto my phone for Flashcards Deluxe. I have to use Dropbox to transfer the media and I have to trick the app a bit due to a file limitation for apps accessing Dropbox.. it's 20k files which is good enough for most any deck except the super awesome Core 10k deck complete with pics on Anki. Which I'm converting to FCD. I've been doing this all day.. uploading files to Dropbox and what not. It's only 750 meg or so but the amount of files involved is apparently really hard for a computer to handle. Seriously. I waste all my weekends on the stupidest stuff. I am going to be so happy when I get through this and I can go ride my bike. I haven't exercised all weak and my brain feels like mush.

I managed to get out on the bike yesterday and today I even managed to get back into
doing my Saturday trek to the library (which means ~ 2 hours of cycling with Japanese in
the background). It feels good when you do get out doesn't it?
I sometimes wonder what it would be like to live in a country like Japan with four
distinct seasons, instead of a place where summer means "the rain is getting warmer" (as
someone said to me today).

haha. Is warm rain all you have to look forward to? Yeah I think mainland Japan has a nice climate. It sounds like it's similar to Virginia in the states. In Tucson, Arizona where I've lived for several years it's warm and sunny every day. There's some variance in the seasons but nothing on the level of Boston where I used to live. All year is pretty good bike riding (except middle of the day in the summer).

I was happy to find subs for The Irregular at Magic High School 魔法科高校の劣等生 posted on http://kitsunekko.net/. When the season started I wanted to pick an anime and use subs2srs each week to learn each episode. I didn't find one that worked out but now the subs are up for this one and the timings match well enough that I don't have to do huge amounts of work to fix it. I still have to read through and use rikai-sama to make vocabulary which takes a couple hours. I end up with about 150 words when I do that with an anime. Some of the vocab I add is just to give me more context for words I've studied out of context but really there's a lot of new words and expressions. That said I'm curious how much will get repeated from episode to episode. I generally do one episode of a series and stop because it's a lot of work to make the deck. And I end up with maybe one deck per month. But this is a new series and interesting enough I think I'll stay interested. Doing a show like Naruto would be a bit overwhelming. And that would be neat to be able to watch a series from start to finish and understand all of it. Or almost all of it. As I was going through this show I kept thinking there's easier words they could be using instead with about the same meaning but NOoo they have to use uncommon words that I don't know. Oh well. At least the amount of words in the script of an anime is limited enough that you can realistically learn all of the words while a book is well more.

I've thought about using subs2srs but it sounds like it's not (quite) a perfect
solution.
Here's what I'd planned, maybe you can tell me where it will fall over in a heap.
1. Pick a drama/anime with both English and Japanese subs available.
2. Pour into subs2srs.
3. Out comes a deck with (say) a snapshot and the Japanese text and the English text.
4. I haven't tried this yet so it may come out properly anyway, but I'd want the
snapshot and the Japanese on the front, the English on the back. I may need to export
and re-import to achieve that, I'm not sure.
5. If I want kana in another field I can either put that in manually the first time I
review each card, or I can perhaps look for some way of doing that auto-magically with
MeCab or similar.
I'm guessing that, if it takes you a few hours to put together a deck, there's some
fatal flaw in my master plan somewhere?

It doesn't sound like you're looking up the individual words in your master plan so I think it'll take you 10
minutes or so. I basically read the whole episode and look up and make flashcards for each word I don't know
or want to review and then use the snapshot of the video, audio clip, and example Japanese sentence with
translation on the card also. It's not the quick and dirty flashcards the subs2srs program makes. They seem
like they would be useful but I want the readings and a definition so I do the extra work.

Having now run subs2srs for the first 5 episodes of 凪のあすから and having dragged it
into anki for a very brief look, I think I'm going to go through the decks it produces,
tidy up the bits I feel need polishing in my initial pass, drop the obvious duplicates
and see how it goes from there.
I might, as a result, produce cards for individual words (which I'll need to check as I
attempt to verify the translations) but they'll go into my traditional decks for vocab
and kanji (without pictures, for now). I'll make the anime deck with snapshot + audio
for now and see if it gets me to the stage where I can (after learning the deck) watch
an episode without subtitles and still understand the bulk of what is happening.
