Class was fun. The teacher told us he assumes we forgot everything so that took a lot of pressure off. The
course is a grammar course and I haven't forgotten everything but I have forgotten a couple things which is
embarrassing and other stuff is a bit rusty. His classes can be a little intimidating however and I was
nervous. I'm still gauging the skill level of the other students and don't really know where I stand.i will say
regarding kanji I am probably way ahead - but this isn't a kanji course heh.

I'm in a bad mood over the stupid Apple ruling. Apple outlawed other smartphones from competing with them
apparently. And will get a check for a billion dollars for no reason. Wow. So dumb. I want to boycot their
products but I'm addicted to them darnit.
I signed up for a Japanese History class too. We've had one class so far - it's a hybrid Web / Classroom
class and looks interesting. It's just a 100 level college course so it doesn't look too difficult. The book is
really light weight. It's called the Heritage of Japanese Civilization or something. The teacher is Japanese
and I'm hoping it's a good course. I haven't done one of these hybrid courses before so I'm curious to see
how it goes.
I already did my assignment for JPN 201 that's due 9/10. It's a review packet of sorts, going over all the stuff
from the past two semesters that we all forgot or just need to refresh. It starts off with writing out the hiragana
/ katakana charts on the 1st page, then translating some katakana words into English on the next page, and
then translating some words written in regular kanji for a couple pages. The last part is the only one that
made me look up stuff. I've posted in this forum about it in the past - basically looking at stuff written in
Japanese and determining if there are any grammar mistakes and if it makes enough sense to be considered
correct. The latter is particularly annoying since the sentences leave the context up to the imagination.
Anyway, so I did that. Today I'm going to do the sheets that we're doing in class but won't be passed in at all.
I'm guessing in terms of doing the work I'll be way way ahead of anyone else in the class. They're just kids
so they put stuff off to the last minute most of the time. I did the same thing when I was their age. I would
make such a better student now lol.

Youll have to read up on it. They're still trying to figure out the ramifications. It's not so much android that
was found to be infingining on apple at the moment as samsung. Something about the phone being
rectangle and having round edges... I'm really confused to be honest. Nothing I read about the case makes
sense to me. I'm hoping Samsung wins its appeal.

Do you remember back in the nineties when there was Apple and Microsoft, and Microsoft were said to be the bad guys with their business practices? I guess it won't be too long before people become convinced that Google are evil too (well, I guess some people already believe that).
Just remember that any of these products might be convenient, or pretty, or shiny, or bring a little bit of consumer joy to your life. But you can still achieve a lot with just a pad and a pencil. I'm think I'm generally taking a fairly low-tech approach to German (well, as far as recorded audio can be considered to be low-tech) and so far, so good. It's probably easier because of the alphabet issue, but I'm still going to try and apply what I've learned back to Japanese somehow.

Yeah I don't get it. And rounded corners... Samsung needs to make them sharp and pointy I guess?? It's
confusing.

I'm trying to be high tech heh. I haven't thrown out my notebook and pencil though. I tried to share the audio
from a note taking app with another student and it was a huge hassle due to proprietary formats. Makes me
want to go back to paper, pencil, and mp3 but I haven't totally give up yet. It's nice carrying everything at
once with an iPad.
