Something I miss from iOS is midori. Not just the pretty graphics and speed, but I can cut and paste a whole
sentence into it and it lists all the entries for all of the words in the sentence. Not finding anything like that in
android.
Not too mention having to hack my phone to get Japanese kanji to show. I still haven't gotten that worked out
unless change the whole phone to Japanese mode.

The handling of Japanese characters on Android phones sold in the English speaking world is the most annoying thing. I doubt it will get fixed any time soon, because there's probably only about 6 people in the world who care, and two of those are me and you! I've installed custom fonts on the Anki app and an ebook reader that I actually never use (it turns out I prefer dead tree to phone screen for extended reading) and have just learned to cope with seeing the Chinese characters if I'm doing a quick look up on Aedict.

LOL. If only there were more people who cared about japanese. But you can switch your device to
japanese language and that fixes the problem. I don't know if phones in japan are any different...if your
default language is Japanese then it has no problems. Go figure. There's a free app that lets you change
the language to anything pretty much except I tried to update the phone after and T-Mobile thought I had
rooted it or something which I hadn't. I dunno. My other phone IS rooted and I hope to one day figure out
how to make darn thing show kanji and English at the same time.

Just was chatting with another student. She's trying to motivate herself to learn new vocab. So strange
that's the only e thing that I don't have a problem doing. It takes time but not so much effort really unlike
grammar. That drains me. But it's so useful. I'm not doing too bad on the grammar front either. Partway
through chapter 5 on the grammar flashcards ill have a nice head start when the class starts. (7 chapters
in the book and ill be somewhat comfortable with half the course already.) But it's. Pain to do. Review isn't
as bad I'm finding. I had reviewed grammar before but I'm being pretty good about doing it the way I think
is best for me if I'm disciplined. Namely sentence flashcards srs right from the book. English side 1 and
Japanese side 2. Working well if a pain.

I'm glad I have an iPhone. I can install all kinds of fonts. When I was working, the phone was synced to my Online account so some of the others at work could see my calender. When I didn't want them to know what I was up to, I used to write appointments in Japanese. For some reason, I could enter things as private on my Online account so they couldn't see them, but I couldn't seem to do it from my iPhone. But writing in Japanese probably worked just as well and was more fun.

Yeah I like my ipad a lot because it handles Japanese characters no
problem. It has a separate issue of crashing when in use a blue
tooth keyboard and type in Japanese which really stinks. But at
least the fonts look awesome. Just upgraded this nexus 7 tablet to
jellybean and I have a a slim hope that they fixed it. I but only a slim
one. Then iI have to think about trying to root the device. Argh.

Just updating on my phone because I love using it. Watching Bleachfor my new years fun . I haven't
watching it in a very long time so it kind of feels fresh. I'm on episode 162 watching it on Crunchy. It's
stillin 480p iI'm sure they'll upgrade the resolution in later episodes. I like how in learned the word for
strawberry for free from watching this show. Wish I got more of that from anime but not a lot of free stuff.
Was thinking to myself again.. How the heck do people speak Japanese for their language on a daily
basisit seems llike it's so well missing stuff. So many homonyms and they drop so much. I guess that's
why it's a high context language. They have to use English to teach seeing eye dogs in Japan because the
context goes right over the animals head and they can learn Japanese apparently. I can empathize with
the dogs of Japan. Man high context stinks.
Oh well moving forward. I'll make some new years resolutions tomorrow no doubt but one is to get this
rooted android phone to properly display Japanese Kanji. I'm sick of switching the phone's language to
Japanese constantly and back.
I'm also gonna review German a bit for the class coming up. I'm rusty as hell but I don't think that's go na
be a problem. I'm worried the class will be too easy but it's the only one that fits my schedule. The
sylabbus seems like it will cover stuff like the subjunctive tense which would be good.
