I like your anki system. I'm thinking I need to reduce my flashcards to
read more and I think the amount you're working with sounds good.
Anyway, I wasn't sure if you were aware that there's an option in
rikisama to show how common a word is. It can be helpful if you're
only looking for the most useful words to add to your deck.

I tried that leech algorithm with Finnish once, and it basically erased my entire deck. Literally everything that wasn't an English cognate went away -- and the frustrating thing was that the cards always got deleted just as I felt I was about to get the word in my brain. It just made me paranoid, so I turned it off.

Yeah I don't use the leech function either. If I'm tired of the card, I'll delete it myself. If I'm not tired, I'll be glad to see it again.

Oh yeah, that's the (P) thingy that is at the end of definitions, right? Yeah, that is helpful when I'm reading online. Thank you for the tip!
Yeah, I like Anki, but the less time I spend on Anki and the more time I spend reading, the better.

Yeah, what you said, cathrynm, has happened to me as well, especially with my Kanji deck. It takes me a few repetitions before the stroke order of a kanji character sticks with me. But with the leech threshold set at 5, often cards would go away before I really learned how to write the character. So my limit for my Kanji deck is 12.
The other decks, though... not really a problem. Yeah, some cards get labeled as leeches before they stick. But that is usually a card design problem. Maybe the example sentence was terrible, or something like that. If the sentence is good, I'll remember the word. In any case, I have my cards set to be suspended if they are leeches. They are not deleted automatically. So if I really want to keep a card, all I have to do is un-suspend it. I've done that a few times already.

I have my leech threshold maxxed out at 99, which apparently disables it, because I have a few cards over that in my Hanzi deck. The worst is 暂, which I will apparently see (and miss) again for the 131st time on 12/23.
