Went to go do my Learning With Texts (on my website) reps today and saw my domain had not been renewed. Went into the control panel and was looking over the renewal options and the billing and decided to just let it die. At this point, my site, which was originally meant for something else, was just hosting some pictures, a blog I never updated and LwT. Didn't think it justified the cost to renew, so it's dead.

I never could get LwT to work on my desktop. I followed the directions to do so a few times, but just couldn't figure out what the hold up was. I know there's the option to use a free website, but I think I'll just let it go for now.

My little quasi-wunderlusting for French has run its course and I'm back to just German and Korean.

This week was a bit crappy. I live with a few friends and generally it's nice and quiet (big house), but this past week, one friend's mother, sister and sister's kid are visiting and it's been very disruptive at times. Just a few more days...

Speaking of things running their course, I've stopped doing SRS again this past week. I feel like I've drifted back towards a routine of endless review. Over the past several weeks, I've rarely failed a card in German and my success rate in Korean is 98%. I understand that that means the sentences I have been adding are too easy.

Here's the thing. Those sentences (except for a handful in German) all come from the courses I've been using to learn German and Korean. Assimil, Teach Yourself, Yonsei Textbook, Sogang Textbooks, etc. In other words, if the sentences I'm adding from Chapter 5 of the Yonsei textbook are too easy, and I'm currently working on Chapter 6, that tells me the textbook is doing its job, and that it's not that I need more difficult sentences to add to SRS, but that I should trust that the textbook is working as intended and that I simply don't need SRS. Of course, I am getting extra review when I type up the sentences (in a text file) and then reread them as I paste them into Anki (into Google Translate first to quickly see if I have a typo), so a round of scriptorium on them plus a few rereads might still be helpful.

The handful of German sentences that I mentioned are from mining sentences using vocab I learn from intensive reading. I'll IR something, write down the words I don't know, look them up on de.thefreedictionary.com, taoeba.com, my vocab books, etc and add sample sentences to my deck. Those helped a lot. I don't know if I'll keep doing SRS with those sentences or if I'll do something else (scriptorium plus rereading them a few times might be enough. While adding them in SRS helped, I only failed those ~30 cards three or four times total. - One card failed twice, two cards fail once each, 27 passed a half dozen times)

And so ends my latest foray into SRSland. Check back in 4 months when I undoubtedly try again, thinking that for some reason, it'll be different this time.
