@fabriciocarraro How did you input the kana? I use a Mac now, but I had a Windows PC back when I started learning Japanese, and I do recall the default IME for Windows having the kanji conversion feature.

Also, if you don't mind corrections, it's にじゅごさい. How you transliterate your name is entirely up to you, but I believe that フブリシオ is far more common.

Edit: My self-introduction.

@fabricio, the default IME on windows converts kana into kanji when you hit the space key. While you're typing there's an underlined part, and that's the one it will attempt to convert every time you hit the space bar using a frequency dictionary. When you have found the right kanji, you then hit enter, and type the next word.
I don't know how it works on linux, but would assume it's similar.

It is - at least on Linux Mint. Installation is a bit more fun that Windows XP or Win7
(no idea about Win8).

how is linux compared to a mainstream os like windows or mac? Have they made it user friendly or is it still mostly command line, for very computer literate types?

For Mac, Open International from the menu bar (or System preferences >> International >> input menu) and add "Japanese" to input menu. It works the same way as the IME does for Windows.

Seeing as you can make Linux look like a windows OS I'd say that it has gotten user friendlier ;)

I was wondering: is anyone else here participating in this month's tadoku?

Right here! CrownedL on twitter. I really need to be pushing more Japanese reading,
though... I go through books faster, but I'm not reading any books in Japanese currently,
just subs and manga. I can't help it if I like pictures. :(

Have you tried the Graded Reader Series? They are real books but with pictures so it really helps :)
