February Challenge
So, I’ve spent the last few weeks singing Очи чёрные (I don’t distinguish myself much for originality, do I?). It wasn’t a very pleasant experience for anyone within earshot, I assure you, ;-) but it was something unusual for me and so it was kind of fun, actually.
Here’s a link to one version of the song, not necessarily the one I like best, but at least it stays close to the lyrics I have (more on that on my log).
Dark eyes, burning eyes
Passionate and splendid eyes
How I love you, How I fear you
Verily, I saw you at a sinister hour
Dark eyes, flaming eyes
They implore me into faraway lands
Where love reigns, where peace reigns
Where there is no suffering, where war is forbidden
Dark eyes, burning eyes
Passionate and splendid eyes
I love you so, I fear you so
Verily, I saw you at a sinister hour
If I hadn't met you, I wouldn't be suffering so
I would have lived my life smiling
You have ruined me, dark eyes
You have taken my happiness away forever
Dark eyes, burning eyes
Passionate and splendid eyes
I love you so, I fear you so
Verily, I saw you at a sinister hour

Excuse the military theme, but I like this one and I don't know many other russian songs.
The road is long for us (and you)
Cheer up soldier, look!
The flags of the regiment fly,
The commanders ahead.
Soldiers, go on, go on, go on!
And for you, darling,
There is a letter (?)
Bye! The trumpet is calling,
Soldiers, let’s march!
Every warrior, courageous guy,
Looks like a falcon in formation.
We are one with glory,
We fought with glory.
Let the enemies remember this:
It’s not a threat, just saying.
We’ve been in half the world together
And we’ll do it again if we have to.
Soldiers, go on, go on, go on!
And for you, darling,
There is a letter (?)
Bye! The trumpet is calling,
Soldiers, let’s march!
And now for us have come
Days of learning and work.
In the years to come
Our village
Will only blossom!
Soldiers, go on, go on, go on!
And for you, darling,
There is a letter (?)
Bye! The trumpet is calling,
Soldiers, let’s march!

Damn. This is what I get for procrastinating. I had worked on Очи чёрные as well. I'll have to find another
song. Oh well, I have all day, right?
And Josquin: great news :-)

You could give your own version :) Why change songs?

Hey cosmonauts, I need help to decide which textbook to use next. For the record, I've
started watching Russian films. Still don't have the time to read anything else, though.
I've been through all the Assimils, Nina Potapova's book, Living Language and I'm about
to finish the old 50's TY Russian. I'm considering going for an intermediate textbook but
maybe I'm still missing something. Of course I don't know the declensions by heart but
it's useless to just read more beginner's books with declension charts. My passive skills
have improved a bit and that's my focus, anyway.

I know it's hard, but try to get "Русский Язык" by Овсиенко, the 2nd book, for intermediate learners. It's an amazing book for the intermediate level, with a lot of texts and some exercises. DON'T get the 1st one, it sucks.

Saw it; It's entirely in Russian, I think I need something transitional before facing a
monolingual textbook :D

renaissancemedi’s right! Why change the song?
I’ve listened to dozens of versions of Очи чёрные and I almost couldn't find two which used exactly the same lyrics.
