First of all, I must apologize for starting a heated debate. I put the congratulation for Victory Day, because many (advanced)textbooks and books about Russian culture have mentioned the significance of Victory Day to Russians and why Russian celebrate this day with pride. Mark and Via Diva have already mentioned these reasons, so I shall not repost the information. Victory Day has became part of Russian culture and I suppose people who study Russian will know this undeniable part of Russian culture. It is sad that for this year, it was stained by Realpolitik of various countries.

I'm resigning as captain of Team Katyusha. Please find another idiot who's willing to do the job.
For further questions, please ask Mark! I'll not put up with being reported and censored for simply saying the truth. As captain of this team and host of this thread, I have a certain responsibility and although this forum is dedicated to language learning, it's not situated in an ivory tower surrounded by vacuum and islands of bliss. I cannot accept the way I have been treated because of simply doing what I think is right. There has been no discussion or anything, instead I have been censored behind my back in my own team log! I cannot stay captain after such a humiliation. As I said, please find someone else who is willing to put up with this sh*t! I'm seriously considering leaving the forum, but for now I will only resign from my responsibility as captain. Obviously, commitment for the community means nothing when you can't stay quiet and stick to your textbooks, so I'm not the right person for this job. Sometimes, the way this forum is run only makes me shake my head... Sorry to leave you, guys! I very much enjoyed studying with you. Thank you Josquin for all you have done, you have been an amazing and inspiring Captain, and I am counting on you to come back later. I'll hold the seat for you in the mean time. Mark, any further comments on the topic will happen in PMs to me or to Josquin. Trust me, you do not want to get on my bad side. Particularly not today.
