Can I suggest a possible solution to all the bickering?
Why not remove 1-book or 1-film from someone's ranking every time they complain about the current ranking system or some other aspect of the SC?
Perhaps there is some way of setting this up automatically so it happens in the background without further discussion.
The discussion at this time two years ago was much nicer and more supportive. Everyone excitedly talking about the books and films they were reading/watching. People were in general in awe of the challenge itself, and there was no sense of this being competition of against other people. Perhaps because we thought it would be awesome just to finish the seemingly impossible challenge with some other people.

Yea, but the problem with this is that it might take me three weeks to read a book, and I will only log it when I'm finished. Or it might take me a month to go through a season of Buffy, but I will probably wait and log it all at once. So even though I'm being consistent, it's not going to show with something like that.
Anyways, I think (from what Cristina said) things are going to mostly stand the way they are. We will have weekly streak badges next to our names/languages. I just wanted to throw my two cents in. :D |

That is a very good point, I hadn't considered that you'd have to report weekly. Although arguably you'd have to do a book a week to complete the challenge. But I understand you mean complete a novel of X pages, even though it would count as 5 books for the purpose of the challenge.

I don't think there's a way for me to view the random ranking anymore?

You can click the "Clear Local Data" link at the bottom of the page, which will forget
all your preferences. I might add a random button later, but there are other
things higher on the to-do list at the moment.

Thanks again for making this challenge fun to track with the Twitter bot, Surrealix. I
have what I hope will be a simple suggestion. Could the front page show decimals? It's
just that my Hindi section shows 0 books, but I'd like to see my hard won 0.3 books. I
suspect that some of the people who show nothing but zeroes might have done a bit of
reading of shorter things as well.

Not that it matters anymore because we have a more complex ranking, but:

I fear that the oceans of stress related to every area of my life right now are affecting my cognitive abilities. I
still do not have the faintest idea what you are talking about. However, you said it did not matter anymore, so
let us set a good example for everyone and just let it go :-)

(I mean the ranking being on totals. Did you see how it was yesterday? Fortunately the current solution is great though. Also let's not measure whose ocean of stress is bigger.)

First up, I've removed the daily streak badges - sorry folks who already had one. I'm
keen to reuse the icon for some other motivational thing (maybe one of Cristina's mini-
challenges later on), so watch this space. Everyone liked the weekly streak badge, so
that's here to stay. |

Does the week start on Monday or Sunday? Or does it essentially mean never going more than 7 days without updating?
Do you plan to implement anything else, like especially past streaks and longest streak? I don't necessarily mean graphs but any long-term representation.

This has also been implemented. |

And what happens when someone completes more than 100%? Many are aiming for double challenges.
