NL: Jouw votes zullen door niemand anders intehalen zijn. Maar andere forumleden krijgen nu ook steeds meer punten. Ik ben ermee bezig om het hele Prof Arguelles subforum doortekijken en op posts die voor mij nuttig en interessant zijn te voten. Zodoende zal het aantal punten van Prof Arguelles ook stijgen. Het is veel leeswerk, dus daar heb ik nog een paar dagen voor nodig.
Morgen avond ga ik naar een lezing van de VHS over "400 Jahre Astronomia Nova" van Johannes Kepler. En paar jaar geleden had ik al in mijn astronomieclub een voordracht beluisterd, waarin de drie astronomische wetten van Kepler toegelicht werden. Dus ik heb al de nodige voorkennis, maar wat opvrissing en aanvulling vind ik altijd nuttig. Verder ben ik "De la terre à la lune" van Jules Verne aan het lezen. Het boek interessert mij meer astronomisch dan literair. De leden van de Amerikaanse Gun-Club willen met een kanon een kogel op de maan schieten. Dat boek is gepubliceerd in 1865, ik kan me amuseren over op wat voor ideeën de mensen toen gekomen zijn. Volgens mij heeft Jules Verne zich behoorlijk in de astronomie verdiept, om zo'n boek te kunnen schrijven. Daar zal ik nog meer over te weten komen, want het interesseert mij heel precies, hoeveel in het jaar 1865 al over de verhouding tussen aarde en maan bekend was. DU: Wat betreft de reis naar de Maan: Jules Verne was een wijs en verstandig man, dus het is vreemd dat hij niet besefte dat de mannen binnen het projectiel zou zijn totaal verplettert reeds door het afvuren van de kanon.
FR: J'ai aussi lu plusieurs autres livres de lui, tel le célèbre Voyage sous la terre. Ici il assume qu'il y a des caves énormes sous la terre, ce qui pourrait théoriquement être vrai - mais que ces caves s'étendent de l'Islande jusqu'à l'Italie, c'est fou, et je ne vois même pas pourquoi il a gâté la fin de son livre avec de tels sottise, - c'est également une sottise de soutenir qu'un groupe de personnes puisse survivre à l'intérieur d'une éruption volcanique. Mais le plus idiot de loin, c'est de prétendre qu'une population de dinosaures eussent survécu des millions d'années sous la terre. In the voyage to the Moon it is strange that he ignores the fact (which he must have known) that any men inside a cannonball which was fired with enough speed to reach the Moon would be squashed to a pulp already when the cannon was fired. In the journey to the center of the Earth there are even more ridiculous claims, such as the possibility of travel from Iceland to Sicily through caves filled with surviving dinosaurs. And the final gimmick of letting a group of men survive a volcanic eruption seen from the inside destroys the last shred of reason in this book. The 20.000 leagues under the sea is considerably less absurd. My on-the-way-back-home-on-work reading today was the september issue of the Italian version of Focus, among other things with an article that identifies Eden with the (allegedly) oldest Sumerian town Eridu in Iraq - not really a Paradise right now. Besides there are pictures from weird or spectacular airports. And I would also like to mention that I have worked a wee bit on my Russian for the first time in two and a half months. I used some of my old printouts from the homepage of the Paleontological Museum of Moscow. It almost felt like coming home because I have worked through parts of this material earlier this year (as mentioned in my logfile), but I wanted to have a gentle return to this language after a period of neglect. NL: Zover ik het begrijp willen ze vanaf de aarde met een kanon een kogel (un "boulet") op de maan schieten. Achter in het boek staat dat ze een projectiel willen maken, waar mensen in kunnen zitten, en er is ook een tekening van. FR: Peut-être c'est une idée pour moi de lire "Voyage sous la terre" de Jules Verne aussi. Ces livres de poche ne sont pas chers, ~ 6 EUR. Je vais le réfléchir. Dans le fil en français (Book Club) je vais présenter des citations de ce livre de Jules Verne sur l'astronomie. Ho comprato il Focus Italiano nell'aeroporto di Tirana.
Gli uomini nella palla di cannone lunare di Giulio Verne dovevano subire un'accelerazione enorme perché la palla non può accelerare più dal momento che ha sortito dal canone, cioè deve aver ottenuto la sua velocità massima quasi instantaneamente. La forza G sarebbe astronomica. Invece gli astronauti al punto di un razzo hanno qualche minuti per ottenere la sua velocità massima, e dunque l'accelerazione può limitarsi a ciò che può sopportare il corpo umano.
