AF: Gaelis is nie net vermaaklik nie, maar ook baie ekonomies - jy hoef net een bladsy te hou jou besig vir 'n hele aand! Ek gebruik die Ierse taalsintetiseerder om my te vertel hoe die kort uittreksel hierbo klink, en ek had nie kon voorspel die resultaat nie. Maar ek weet genoeg oor die uitspraak om te lees, en communicatie aan die moedertaalsprekers is nie op die agenda nie.
Gaelic is not only entertaining, but also economical: one page could keep you occupied for a whole evening. I have used an Irish speech synthesizer to tell me how the passage above should sound, and to be frank: I could not have predicted the outcome. However I know enough about the pronunciation to be able to read silently, and communication with the Gaelic speakers is not on the agenda right now. GER: Ich höre jetzt einige alte podcasts vom BR alpha mit Professor Harald Lesch, der später zu ZDF (war es wohl) gewechselt ist. Seine alte astronomische Vorträge waren aber besser. Er erzählt mir gerade jetzt etwas über dir Quasare.
FR: Sur la télé je regarde la Xième émission dans la tradition Danbrownienne, avec Marie Madeleine enceinte allant en France, les templiers, la Prieure de Sion et les idées creuses de M. Plantard couchées par écrit dans quelques dossiers secrets. C'est incroyable ce qu'on peut continuer à discuter les thèmes de Dan Brown et ses sources, - pour une oeuvre littéraire c'est le ralbol - j'en ai marre! Pourtant je ne puis m'empêcher de mentionner une peinture que j'ai vue dans le Musée de l'Histoire de Marseille: Marie Madeleine qui prêche, - rare pour une femme dans la periode catholique, et longtemps avant la découverte de l'Evangile de Marie Madeleine où certains apôtres la reprochent justement de prêcher. Et voici une peinture Occitane qui antécipe le Code de da Vinci... 
I have been listening to some podcasts by Harald Lesch from the period where he had a delightful astronomical lecture series on the German TV channel BR Alpha. While I was listening to his take on the quasars my TV showed one more program in the post-Danbrowian tradition with all the usual props: pregnant Mary Magdelene valiantly travelling to Southern France, the drivel of mr. Plantard in the socalled 'Secret Dossiers', le bon roi Dagobert, the mystical priester Saunière who became rich by selling masses en masse etc. etc. But you have to admit that Dan Brown did do his homework: the painting above shows Mary Magdalene preaching to a group of people somewhere in Southern France, - painted centuries before the find of the Evangile of Mary Magdalene, where some envious apostles criticize her for .. preaching. Earlier today I made a printout of parts of the comprehensive Irish grammar of www.braesicke.de ... in German. I could only find the confusing and pedagogy-ridden Teach Yourself Irish grammar when I visited London half a year ago, so this is a good alternative. The author describes himself as a learner, .... but this is the work of a true scholar. PS I have just passed 4000 messages. DE: Diese 15-Minuten Videos von Harald Lesch sind einfach richtig gut! Ich habe mir schon einige auf BR-Alpha davon angehört, aber es fehlen noch viele, die ich noch nicht kenne. Je älter seine Vorträge, desto weniger kenne ich sie. Harald Lesch hat schon einige Fernsehsendungen im ZDF präsentiert, aber seine Videos auf BR-Alpha finde ich auch qualitativ besser. Problematisch is nur, daß die Astronomen immer klüger werden, und deshalb werden wohl almählich auch einige seiner Vorträge von der Entwicklung überholt..

Das ist klar, dass inzwischen neue wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse gewonnen werden und, dass dadurch wahrscheinlich einige Aussagen von Harald Lesch bald überholt sein werden. Jedoch erklärt er auch viele grundlegende Phänomene der Astronomie (das interessiert mich besonders!) und diese allgemeinen Dinge werden immer noch gültig sein. I have spent most of the evening on a meeting with old colleges from my workplace until the mid zeros (00s, - I'm not quite sure how the Anglophones call this decennium). For some reason they spoke about football (soccer) much of the time, but now that Denmark's rickety old boys team have left the VM in South Africa we can maybe hope for a little peace and quiet again here - I'm sick and tired of all that sport in the TV programs.

I have also found time for a bit of Irish, plus the chapter about Genghis Khan (Чингисхан) in my Russian history book. But now it's time for Dr. John Bull's Goodnight ... and mine too.
