我有个问题,希望有人可以给我说清楚点:
I've seen the phrase 那还用说! meaning something like "that's obvious" or "that goes without saying". Apparently it can also be used in other rhetorical statements, and i'm not quite sure i get the meaning. Some samples from my textbook are:
甲:再等一会人,他会来的! (Wait a little longer, he'll come!)
乙:他要能来,还不早来了! (If he could come, he.. wouldn't be late?)
甲:为了打破僵局,做一点儿让步吧! (In order to break the deadlock, yield a little/make some concessions!)
乙:还做让步?怎么成!(How could i yield? (??) How would i succeed?)
甲:他被抓走了,是真的吗? (Is it true that he was arrested?)
乙:那还有错!我弟弟亲眼看见的. (How could it be false? (??) My brother saw it with his own two eyes.)
I've tried searching online for some more info, 但是找不到. I keep getting sent to pages on 难道. Any help or pointer to reference pages would be appreciated :)

It sounds like a phrase we have in Khmer which when translated would be something like 'not necessary to say'. In
Khmer it would often be used when you are fed up of hearing someone say the same thing, or in jest/surprise if
someone says something funny/wrong which is somewhat inappropriate. So for example I will say that phrase to
someone in Khmer when they say someone western is fat, because in Cambodia it's totally appropriate, but in my
culture you wouldn't call someone fat to their face because it would offend them. So I will say 'not necessary to say'
in a funny tone. My wife says this is basically the same thing in Chinese.
