Thanks for the tip. I'm actually just reading manga and subs right now because I don't have any novels in Japanese on me, though. ^^; I'd like to go out and buy some, but I can't really order any right now and I haven't found any stores that sell them here.

another tip as far as "novels" are concerned is this cellphone novel website. the stories are rather easy and interesting and they are available for free. :)
yeah, more participants. I still think it's amazing that the some read almost 1700 pages in these past few days. my username for tadoku is biheart :) What kind of material are you guys reading? any recommendations? I personally have read Yotsubato and Life, as far as mangas are concerned, and novels from the website above as well as the NHK easy news and Graded Readers. I switched to Linux Mint last Christmas and I've not looked back. I have my original Windows XP available in a VM but I've yet to use it. I may fire it up again to suck out data from things like the Family Tree software I used to use but other than that I can't think of anything for which I need Windows. If you play games on the PC then things may be different. But for office stuff, web surfing and learning languages, I've yet to find a limitation. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

It's sort of a reading competition, you log everything you read and at the end of the challenge there's a ranking. It motivates you to keep reading and not slack off :D You can find more about it on their website, www.readmod.com.
I mostly read manga, currently I'm reading Fairy Tail, One Piece, Area D and a few others. I've started reading the OreImo light novel, as well as reading Japanese subs while watching anime. I've also got breaking into japanese literature, but I've avoided that the past few weeks in favor of other stuff to read. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Is it just books, or can you read other material for the 多読 challenge?
I tend to read a lot of online stuff - news and stories/tales/books that I can find in digital form - but once it becomes comfortable for me to read a novel (meaning no more than five unknown words per page, more or less - preferably less), I will start reading more physical books. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Here are the rules and a list of accepted reading materials (though I'm sure you could count other materials as one of the listed ones if it's not on the list). You can just count sentences if you don't know what to do. I usually read mostly books during Tadoku, but some people focus majoritarily on manga, subs or games.
