Hi HTLALers, can you recommend all-time favorite foreign language songs one can learn for cultural
performances? Ideally, these would be the classic songs that resonate through different generations of that language's native speakers, and may have spread overseas and become internationally recognizable. These would be the kind of songs that can be sung during cultural exchange programs. Maybe we could post the language then the song. I'll go first. For French, this album has pretty good coverage of classic childhood songs. I bought this the other day, and I was delighted to realize I already recognized over half these songs from listening to my wife sing to our kids. And my wife knew most of the rest; she just never sang them around the house.
There are a few small issues here and there, as with most of these compilations of children's songs. But if you want fun songs that are instantly recognizable by French speakers, it's a good starting point. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Maybe "Дорогой длинною" ("Along the Long Road") a.k.a. "Those were the Days" in its English adaptation would fit the bill (the tune's the same but the adaptation's lyrics differ noticeably from the Russian original). 2 persons have voted this message useful |
