Based on the meaning, I think that also the best now sounds as others have noted, the
conditionnel présent. This preserves the possibility of occurring in the future, or
any moment after in the future but in the past, if that makes sense.

This page on the

conditionnel passé
explains some uses of that tense, but from my own intuition,
it cannot be used because it only gives the possibility of the future up to a certain
point in the past. "percevrait", instead of including all of the future, with no
maximum point (condtionnel présent). "aurait perçu" is the past form of "aura perçu",
a future up until a certain point with limitation until that specific point.

It is a bit complicated to explain properly, but it would be like the Swedish "jag
skulle ha sett", it has the future up until a certain point whilst referring to the
past. Likewise, "jag ska ha sett" refers to the present and future, but still has a
limitation of a certain point in the future, meanwhile "jag skulle se" would include
all of the future as possible, with no limitation on how far in the future, just like
the conditionnel passé.

Would "allait percevoir" or "allait avoir percu" be possible alternatives?
