In Dutch the amount of variation is quite large though. In Romanian or Russian it's much

what a peculiar feature of Dutch that I was not aware of , it is especially striking for me since Dutch is spoken in a relatively small area unlike Russian which is known to be pronounced pretty much in the same way over huge territory . Dutch has a fairly large amount of native speakers though, about 23 million, compared to
the Scandinavian languages which have even more dialects, especially Norway. Add to that that dialectical Dutch does not have the same status in the Netherlands as in Norway, and that a fair few hundred thousand actually have Frisian as their mother tongue :) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I have anothet question : can the dutch g and ch always be pronounced like the German ch in flach ?

Yes. But you'll be marked as a speaker of Dutch from the northern part of the country. Or

Great to hear it , since I am very awkard at producing the more guttural variant , if I should get around to learning Dutch I 'll definitely opt for the German like one plus the Italian R . 1 person has voted this message useful |
