Bang head here....supposed to use “duo1 jiu3” and found myself literally translating English into Chinese with “ji3ge xiao3shi2”.   Right now, I do not necessarily use fundamental phrases often enough to automatically remember them.   Right now the rewards of drilling have a limited duration. Basically means I need to do periodic reviews of everything, or perhaps be constantly drilling multiple FSI modules at the same time.   Thinking back to animal training days (used learning theory) I HAD to do regular refreshers of the basics to be able do the advanced stuff. Excluding the optional FSI modules, there are 9 plus the resource module.   I've worked with modules one thru six. Maybe if I do drilling in two different modules a week then that will do it. Or do I need to do the reviews for two different modules a week? Won't know until I try.

Starting on a project which from all appearances is extremely intense. Will have a better feel after this next week as to how much time may be available for working on Mandarin.

Did do work in 3 different FSI modules this week.

The new project is definitely intense. This morning there were almost 500 Anki reviews piled up. My language exchange chats are being cut by over half. I'm considering not attending class tomorrow as there's a number of things that have to get done this weekend.

Am working a lot of hours which pushes out working on Chinese. Was wondering how to at least sustain what has been learned so far and then discovered that I can understand much more of my movies. Also it seems that I can work off-site and go into the office late which will enable having language exchange chats again. I will be unable to make it to any Mandarin speaking gatherings for a while.

Totally wiped, working really long hours. After going back to more frequent language exchange chatting, I had to stop again when things got more intense. It also seems that when extremely tired, I understand more Mandarin. A friend says that means I need to let go of my English mental filter.

With my hectic schedule, the most consistent item that I can do is listening. I am understanding more and more of my movies....hooray for something! I also have concerns about losing my language exchange partners since our schedules barely connect these days.

My schedule is changing again and it looks like I'll be working from home for a while. This is a welcome change. I've restarted chatting and am working on catching up with my SRS reviews...600+ entries at the moment.

I am so behind in SRS reviews that the number of daily new cards is now set to zero. The situation is ditto for new vocabulary and sentences which need to be added. At this point I am so discouraged that thoughts of quitting pop up.
