Daníel hingegen hatte Selbstmord als etwas ganz Normales angesehen I understand it means "Daniel, on the contrary, [...]", but why is hingegen in second position? Does it work like the preposition nach (meine Meinung nach) and it's attached to Daniel in the first position? The hingegen in your example works much like the English "on the other hand" and is attached to Daniel.

Daníel hingegen hatte Selbstmord als etwas ganz Normales angesehen Oder: 1. Daniel dagegen hatte Selbstmord ....... 2. Dagegen / Hingegen hatte Daniel Selbstmord... 3. Dahingegen hatte Daniel........ Bin mir nicht sicher, ob man in Satz 1. Kommas setzen muss: "Daniel, dagegen/hingegen,..." "Dagegen" scheint ein bißchen gebräuchlicher zu sein.
