If you don't mind using the bible, there is a link to an audio edition in Prof Arguelles thread. I can't get the link to
work.

Here are some videos you might find useful:

Learn Southern Min (Taiwanese/Hokkien) - 45 videos going through Taiwanese dialogues for business, teaching tones, tone changes, pronunciation and more.

Harvard Taiwanese 101 - 10 videos to accompany the course, the pronunciation videos at the beginning look quite useful.

Thanks for the information. Btw, I tried to place an order the other day on amazon.co.jp for a copy of CDエクスプレス 台湾語, and I am kinda taken aback by how expensive the delivery charges are to europe. It's kinda ironic that the delivery charges can be more expensive than the book itself!

I am going to try the videos, thanks unzum!

Noriyuki nomura:

I have been using 「台湾語会話」written by 樋口靖.

http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E5%8F%B0%E6%B9%BE%E8%AA%9E%E4%BC%9A %E8%A9%B1-%E6%A8%8B%E5%8F%A3-
%E9%9D%96/dp/4497200043/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=12854 35208&sr=8-3

The book is very comprehensive and covers most basic grammars and some 2000+ words.

台湾語会話 doesn't appear to have a CD attached. How do you understand what the language sounds like?

The CDs are sold separately.

If you want more input, you may want to watch this:

I can't make any specific recommendations for materials, but I'd recommend if you're in Taiwan or have a friend who is, you could check the bookstores of some of the universities there. Some of the bigger schools teach Taiwanese, so there is likely to be some good resources. Particularly at National Taiwan University (國立台灣大學), where some of the books for the IUP program are printed in-house (and therefore can't be gotten elsewhere) and are supposed to be excellent.

Another idea is if you have a university near you with a substantial collection of Chinese materials, you could find some good stuff there. This is a list of such schools in North America.
