I was wondering if the radical 龠 is still used in chinese as a standalone character and if the characters based on it

All of these fall into two categories:
-they refer to some item or unit of measure that belongs to the distant past (so the word itself is not used except if you're referring to that distant past) -they're a deprecated variant of another character. So, this radical is not really useful any more, no. 4 persons have voted this message useful | |||

As a radical it's not very useful for modern Mandarin, no. As a component, it's used mainly (as far as I know) in the character 鑰, which is a very common character.

As a component (but not radical) of 籲, you also see it in the word 呼籲, somewhat common.
