Using Russian DVDs to learn the Russian language Home > Languages > Russian > FAQ > Russian DVDs Advanced learners can greatly benefit from watching movies in Russian on DVD. Fortunately, there are many, many movies available in Russian on DVDs. You can buy some on Amazon, but most are available only in Russia. Many of these movies do not have subtitles, which decreases their usefulness as a learning tool, but they are very cheap. Try to find true Russian movies with subtitles, if possible in Russian and English (or another language you already know). This will make it possible for you to watch the movie with English subtitle if you are a beginner, or to watch it in Russian with the russian subtitles, which is much better. The amount of money available for producing movies in Russia has decreased very much since the collapse of the Soviet Empire, but there are still many enjoyable films you can find. Most recent films are made to good TV films standards. If you like action movie, one of the biggest hits was "Brat". |
