yawn, if I remember the rules of the game right, you're playing the wrong game. We are supposed to post either the same word in a different language or a different word in the same language. The post before JW's was "Weg" which means "way" in German. JW had to either write "way" in another language or write a different word in German. I'll carry on from JW's post. If I'm wrong, I apologise.
verdrängen -
1. to drive out (someone from somewhere) - Die Einwohner haben die Hexe aus ihrem Dorf verdrängt.
2. to supress/repress - Seit vielen Jahren hat er diese Erinnerung verdrängt.
For the purpose of this game, we'll use the first meaning of "verdrängen" as I doubt there's an equivalent of both meanings within one verb in other languages.
