Looks like you're making steady progress! That pattern in your graphs is interesting; I wonder if it's something common to Assimil courses in general.

Thanks! I bet that this pattern and the word choice are among the most important features that make Assimil such a wonderful course, in spite of all my complaints about grammar explanations and useless exercises :-))

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 55 - Lesson 51

The speech pace reaches again the maximum level so far, but it seems that some gramatical structure and new vocabulary have been the main reasons of my incomplete understanding until reading the Catalan text. The reduced form of pronouns are not only grammatically complex, but it also makes the listening comprehension more difficult.

Time required for individual lessons (minutes)

Cinquanta (50) = 20
Cinquanta-una (51) = 19

Total time for groups of lessons (hours)

1 to 7 = 2.1
8 to 14 = 3.1
15 to 21 = 2.8
22 to 28 = 3.8
29 to 35 = 3.1
36 to 42 = 3.4
43 to 49 = 2.7

I would add about 1.0 hour for each group due to repetitions during commute.

Total time

1 to 49 = 28.1 hours

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 56 - Lesson 52

This lesson was short, easy and, it must be said, I'm in a hurry ... it means that I didn't even care about the exercises!

Time required for individual lessons (minutes)

Cinquanta (50) = 20
Cinquanta-una (51) = 19
Cinquanta-dues (52) = 15

Total time for groups of lessons (hours)

1 to 7 = 2.1
8 to 14 = 3.1
15 to 21 = 2.8
22 to 28 = 3.8
29 to 35 = 3.1
36 to 42 = 3.4
43 to 49 = 2.7

I would add about 1.0 hour for each group due to repetitions during commute.

Total time

1 to 49 = 28.1 hours

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 57 - Lesson 53

Let me tell you the truth, I'm anxious to start as soon as possible the active phase. Only three lessons left!!

Cinquanta-dues (52) = 15

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 58 - Lesson 54

Two more lessons and counting ...

I'm sure that we all here in HTLAL know quite well how important it is to learn right from the beginning the phonetics of a given language. This is even more important for some languages. Anyone starting to learn Catalan should pay special attention to the phonetics of this language, which is hard, although to get the correct spelling is not as hard as in French.

Time required for individual lessons (minutes)

Cinquanta (50) = 20
Cinquanta-una (51) = 19
Cinquanta-dues (52) = 15
Cinquanta-tres (53) = 14
Cinquanta-quatre (54) = 23

Total time for groups of lessons (hours)

1 to 7 = 2.1
8 to 14 = 3.1
15 to 21 = 2.8
22 to 28 = 3.8
29 to 35 = 3.1
36 to 42 = 3.4
43 to 49 = 2.7

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 59 - Lesson 55

Last passive only phase lesson. I wouldn't still say that I can listen or even read Catalan, for I've followed "the rules" and haven't seen how it's in the "outside world". Anyway, I'm feeling comfortable with this course, trusting that by the end of it I'll have achieved something.

Cinquanta-dues (52) = 15
Cinquanta-tres (53) = 14
Cinquanta-quatre (54) = 23
Cinquanta-cinc (55) = 15

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 60 - Lesson 56

Eighth review lesson plus prononus study. The review lesson talks about word formation and there are some few differences between Catalan and other Romance languages that I know. It means that I'll certainly mix it in the future in a number of cases, but hope to have no problems most of the time.

People talk about interference as a negative stuff, but, as you may know, there are constructive and destructive interference. It seems that for me Italian and Catalan grammar are interfering in a constructive way, especially about pronouns.

Time required for individual lessons (minutes)

Cinquanta (50) = 20
Cinquanta-una (51) = 19
Cinquanta-dues (52) = 15
Cinquanta-tres (53) = 14
Cinquanta-quatre (54) = 23
Cinquanta-cinc (55) = 15
Cinquanta-sis (56) = 16

Total time for groups of lessons (hours)

1 to 7 = 2.1
8 to 14 = 3.1
15 to 21 = 2.8
22 to 28 = 3.8
29 to 35 = 3.1
36 to 42 = 3.4
43 to 49 = 2.7
50 to 56 = 2.0

I would add about 1.0 hour for each group due to repetitions during commute.

Total time

1 to 56 = 31.1 hours

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 60 - Active 1, Passive 57

So, the active phase starts! In spite of some mistakes, no big problems. Since the passive lessons are bigger, I've decided to listen to it just twice, one without reading, the next one reading the Catalan text. I only read the Spanish text, if necessary, and it seldom is, just in case of some important doubts that my on-line dictionary cannot help.

Time required for individual lessons (minutes)

Primera (1) + Cinquanta-set (57) = 28

Total time for groups of lessons (hours)

1 to 7 = 2.1
8 to 14 = 3.1
15 to 21 = 2.8
22 to 28 = 3.8
29 to 35 = 3.1
36 to 42 = 3.4
43 to 49 = 2.7
50 to 56 = 2.0

I would add about 1.0 hour for each group due to repetitions during commute.

Total time

1 to 56 = 31.1 hours
