Well, it's about two and a half hours later, and I STILL haven't done my chemistry homework. I foresee a terrible evening ahead. As for the Spanish AP exam, I sometimes feel very well prepared, and at other times I feel utterly unprepared. But I think the listening, reading, and writing sections will go well. The speaking section is hit or miss. I just don't get enough speaking time in - I haven't had a spoken conversation with someone in Spanish since Easter. How about you? I feel pretty prepared. Its not so much that I think the exam is going to be hard, it

YAY!!!!!! The AP Spanish exam is a thing of the past! Now I can go back to my normal language schedule
and actually spend some time on Polish and Latin. Overall, I felt that the exam went very well, but I was not completely satisfied with the essay I wrote. It wasn't one of my best productions and I hope its relatively poor quality does not effect my grade too drastically. Of course, maybe my critical assessment is just a result of my perfectionistic tendencies . . . who knows. I suppose I'll find out when I receive my score report in July. Anyway, I am VERY excited and relieved that the exam is over with. :) EDIT: I just noticed - ten days later - that I spelled 'perfectionistic' wrong. I studied Latin for the first time in a week - yay! I am learning about the subjunctive again, which is good,
since I have forgotten most of what I learned about it last year. I'm on Chapter 28 of Wheelock's. As for Polish, I am organizing my flashcards. This involves removing the words that I no longer need to review from my paper flashcards; taking the cards I am not sufficiently familiar with out of my paper flashcards and adding them to Anki; and finally pulling any cards that don't make any sense and finding better definitions for the words. My Polish vocabulary is rather shaky at the moment, so hopefully this will help. I need to get back in Polish mode . . . right now my Polish is suffering from Spanish interference. I suppose that makes sense, due to the fact that I have been focusing so much on Spanish, but it is really annoying. Every time I try to say something in Polish it comes out in Spanish. (But at least interference from Spanish is better than interference from English!) I also did 30 minutes of Spanish flashcards today. I am sick and feel awful, but at least that means I have extra time to give a proper update. So . . .
Spanish I have been taking a break since the Spanish AP, which means that I have just been doing flashcards. Of course, since I have over 4,000 flashcards, this takes time. I have spent several hours on flashcards this week and I have only just caught up with my Anki reviews. It's funny - I am growing to like Spanish more and more as I learn more about it. Not that I ever positively hated Spanish, but Romance languages in general are not my favorites. I like Slavic (or even Germanic) languages better. But since it is virtually impossible for me to genuinely hate a language, I guess it makes sense that I would appreciate Spanish more now that I understand more (though by no means all) of its nuances and peculiarities. Latin I finished Wheelock's Chapter 29 yesterday. It was about the imperfect subjunctive and result clauses, which was very interesting. I remember in the past that I never really understood the concept of the subjunctive mood in Latin, but now everything makes perfect sense. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I have spent so much time trying to figure out the Spanish subjunctive - they are by no means the same, but they are comparable. Anyway, I am excited, because I think I have finally reached the part in Wheelock's in which everything will be new for me. I am tired of review! Polish Dobrze, chce mi się napisać coś po polsku, ponieważ od dawna tego nie robię (przynajmniej na tym forum). Jak zauważycie jakieś pomyłki, proszę dajcie mi znać - wiem, że czasami stosuję angielskie konstrukcje kiedy piszę po polsku. W ostatnich dwóch tygodniach koncentrowałam się na języku polskim, dlatego spędziłam całymi godzinami szukając nowych wyrazów i ucząc się jak nimi się posługiwać. Powtórzyłam wiele fiszek w Anki. Jak wspomniałam na początku tego logu, przeczytałam "Quo vadis" kilka lat temu i bardzo mi się spodobało. W zeszłym tygodniu zdecydowałam przeczytać tę fantastyczną powieść po raz drugi, ponieważ zawsze czytam mnóstwo razy książki, które wywarły na mnie dobre wrażenie. Teraz jestem na stronie 330 i naprawdę myślę, że ta powieść należy do moich najulubieńszych (razem z "Władca pierścieni", "Duma i uprzedzenie" i "Samotnia", między innymi). Po prostu uwielbiam wszystkich bohaterów, lubię styl pisania Sienkiewicza, i oczywiście podoba mi się chrześcijańskie przesłanie. U mnie zwykle się zdarza, że czytając książki po raz drugi (lub trzeci lub czwarty) podobają mi się bardziej niż pierwszym razem, i "Quo vadis" nie jest wyjątkiem. Poza tym, czytanie mi idzie o wiele łatwiej tym razem, więc bardziej się cieszę fabułą i bohaterami. Okay, I got carried away and gave an impromptu speech on why I like "Quo vadis" so much. Now for a brief translation. . . . Basically, I liked "Quo vadis" so much the first time that I decided I needed to read it again, and this time I like it even more plus it is much easier for me to read. Nothing much to report. I have been keeping up with my Spanish Anki reviews, but I still have one more week
off from Spanish before I start studying seriously again in June. I finished Chapter 30 of Wheelock's and started Chapter 31 yesterday. As for Polish, I finally finished my essay on patriotism in Pan Tadeusz. It is over 1,000 words long, but I can't remember the exact number. I also finished rereading Quo vadis. It only took me about 20 days to read - that is a big improvement, since it took me around 6 MONTHS the first time. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I really should have taken the AP Spanish exam all those years ago . . . no matter now, as an independent student, but it might have helped.
I also enjoy Spanish and have been working on that too lately. I just wrote a reply to Vos in Spanish, but unfortunately I clicked the back button by mistake, and now those words exist no more :( Congrats for keeping up your Polish studies - you're sooo far ahead of me! But I'm learning. I work with my flashcards, too, cards for individual words and also for a few common phrases that use the words. Because of those pesky grammatical cases, you know . . .
