@Hekje Dankje! =) --- Salut tout le monde! La semaine prochaine était dure pour moi dans le travail, mais maintenait c'est déjà un peu mieux! Alors, le rencontre de CouchSurfing n'était pas très super cette semaine, parce qu'il y avait beaucoouuuuppp de brésiliens, et comme j'y vais pour pratiquer mes langues, il n'était pas très interessant. De toute façon, j'ai parlé en anglais, comme toujours, et un peu en hollandais! J'ai vu une femme italienne dans la salle, mais je parlais avec un autre groupe et puis elle s'en était allée. En plus, tout à coup j'ai decidé d'apprendre l'alphabet arabe! Je sais qu'il y a beaucoup d'arabes en France (voilà pourquoi j'écris ce en français). J'adore apprendre des nouveaus alphabets, et dont j'ai toujours voulu apprendre l'arabe. Donc, j'ai acheté le livre d'une collègue de HTLAL, qui s'appelle "Learn to Read Arabic" by Judith Meyer (Sprachprofi). Le livre est super, et je peux dire que maintenant, après 3 jours d'études, je peux lire et écrire en arabe! =D Bien sûr que je ne lis pas très vite, mais c'est n'est pas important en ce moment. Pour moi, c'était comme "défaire un mythe", parce que je pensais que l'apprendre serait très très difficile, mais il n'est pas. Maintenant je ne sais pas si je vais continuer à étudier l'arabe, parce que je suis déjà très occupé avec l'hollandais, le russe et le français, et je voulais aussi étudier l'allemand.... AHHHHHH.... je hais ce wanderlust! =P Mais... qui sait, dans l'avenir, peut être? =) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Arabic?
- Hello eveyone, my name is Fabrício and I have sinned. - Hello Fabrício. - My friends, I must confess, I have been a bad boy lately. Remember all the promises I made of sticking to my Dutch and French studies, not adding new languages to the pot? Well...as I said on my last post (the one in French), it all started with learning a new alphabet, the Arabic one, since I always wanted to know what all those curvy lines and dots meant. Sprachprofi's book is great, and after about 3 days I could read in Arabic! So I had fun writing my name in Arabic, my wife's name in Arabic, my parents' names, etc., etc.... but was it all? I'm not sure if I've told this here before, but I'm also a history addict. I love studying it, watching documentaries, listening to podcasts, knowing more about it overall, and the Arabic history is so rich. With Egypt, Syria (I found out about it thanks to the first Assassin's Creed game) and also it's close relation to France...it's really a field day for history lovers. On the other hand, I don't really appreciate all the religious load that it carries, and their policies until today.... So, after going through Sprachprofi's book I was at home during the weekend, had nothing to do, so I started using Michel Thomas (Egyptian) Arabic. I love the method, so that can't hurt, can it? Can it? Can it? Hahahaha =P Seriously now guys, I'm not sure of what this is, if I'm just playing with the language, if it's a harmless wanderlust or if that's a commitment. I'm living a dilemma right now hahah wanting to study Dutch, and French, and Russian, but being dragged towards Arabic as well. I'll definitely maintain my current daily commitment to Dutch, my eventual French and Russian practices and maybe I'll continue listening to Michel Thomas Arabic. I hope that won't be too much =/ For now, I won't put it under "Studies", and I'll take Swedish off it, at least until December. Many years ago when I did Arabic, I was also surprised at how fast it was to master the basics of the alphabet - I had thought it would be much worse. I also think the script has a beauty only surpassed by the Georgian alphabet. Like you I like history, and when I started on my original thesis, the subject was the cross between Arabic and Spanish culture during the period of the Arabic dominance. I thought it was the most fascinating subject ever. My teachers, who were of the firm opinion that the only subjects worth studying were related to Latin-American liberation movements, found it as interesting as watching horse manure age. And don't worry about the number of languages. My experience is that you learn best what you are most eager to learn in the moment - also known as the Montessori method -if you feel like playing with Arabic a little, then do. Just know that it is a vast language to dive into if you want to do it seriously, and you may get addicted :-) 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||
