I wouldn't say that so quickly, to me the southern Russian г sounds more

That happens because your Germanic ears do not notice whether a consonant is voiced or
voiceless. Their г is voiced, while [h] is a voiceless sound.

Uhhh.... Dutch distinguishes between voiced and voiceless /x/. To me their /g/ sounds
less fricative than /x/, and more like an h than /x/.

There are two variants of g there. In Southern Russia they pronounce it mostly as a
voiced [x], but in Ukraine in some parts of Russia they pronounce it as a voiced [h].
This however depends on the position of the g.
Russians do not hear the difference between [h] and [x] but they can always hear the
difference between voiced and voiceless consonants.

I see. But I used the h sympol because in IPA it is used for the voiceless sound.

I am putting this log on hold for some days temporarily while I sort out urgent thesis
life shit which are taking its toll on me right now.
Languages can wait. If I find a pocket of free time I will continue to upload parts of
the travelogue, but the coming two weeks will be a part of my continuous low activity.
