PS Марк was right - there is a wide field for interpretations. Don't you like to
duplicate your messages in English?
I like Steve Kaufman's words: "...their laughter helped me. Now I never make that
mistake".

I'm not the only person in this thread who has problems with understanding your Russian.

In fact, I understand you almost always even when it is not easy to do. For example, when
I saw Где вы думаете вы?, I thought: "Where are you thinking you? What can it mean?". But
after reading the whole dialogue I understood that you meant Как вы думаете, где вы
находитесь?

Probably not. But then there are five grammar mistakes and an idiomatic misuse of a
phrase, so what. I haven't stated perfection in Russian, just that I can understand and
have a discussion, if I do it with 10 or 20 mistakes is really not a big deal to me.
And for the record, you are THE ONLY PERSON EVER who complains about not understanding
me. Nobody else does. People have consistently told me over the last few months that
it's been good. That my Russian is flawed is no secret (and that my ability to write a
long essay in Russian is pretty much nonexistent is also a given) but then again I only
write here to give short updates in context about what I've been doing.

I have already shown that that's not true. There is even a thread on the forum about
being praised by native speakers, and everyone agreed that one could not trust them in
that. About understanding: one can write in a very incorrect way but still be
understood. I could understand texts in Bulgarian although I don't know this language
at all. And its grammar is very different.

My focus is on real colloquial spoken Russian because I am going to travel in Russia in
the summer (where I'll need to focus on the spoken language) and on writing in
informal, Facebook/VKontakte style environments. I occasionally also write letters, but
they are not fancy and personal correspondence which is also the area I'm most familiar
with, so it's easy for me to do.

And what?

I'm also, let me phrase this properly so we get this clear: intentionally working
with a tutor to improve my Russian in both the spoken and the grammatical areas of the
language, who is being more than consistent in helping me get the language right and
aiding me in finding my mistakes. But even she admits to having a very easy time
communicating with me and thinks I am easy to work with.
I am not making shit up,
I am going on feedback of other people who I have intentionally hired to do this job
to help me speak better Russian.

That's her manner of teaching and she is a private tutor. When I was at school, I was
criticized and berated by my teacher of English (and some other teachers of languages)
in an unpleasant way much more often than I was praised. Although I was a good pupil.

I have asked you dozens of times to be polite in this thread. Not once, not twice,
tens. My patience with you is over and I am done arguing with you in this thread. If
you want to belittle someone's efforts go do it somewhere else, I have no intention
with arguing you any more on the internet. This is my log, this is where I describe my
experiences of language learning and you can be polite and offer corrections (see what
jeff does for my Swedish or what Josquin does for my German, or even what Vermillion
has done for my French), or you can converse about my experiences, or anything under
the sun, but I won't have this nonsense in my log.

Full stop.

I have corrected you many times in a normal way, but you were not pleasant to me
either. And I can say, you are the only learner of Russian on the forum who does not
appreciate my activity, aren't you?

I said we were done arguing.

Congratulations, you found posts from a year ago showing I made mistakes in Russian! If
you wanted me to be pleasant, you ought not to have gone berserk in here. It's that
simple. We are done. Are we clear?

Hey tarvos,

I just wanted to drop by and say that I think it's amazing how fast you are going through your languages and learning them. Russian, Swedish, Breton, Hebrew, now I see you've even picked up Romanian. You must be one of the most talented (and motivated) language learners I've ever come across. Keep up the good work!

Everybody speaks a language badly before they speak well. You are still learning. We are all still learning.

Oh, it's okay to speak them badly (my levels vary from good as in Swedish as in
moderately decent (Russian) to bad (Hebrew) to awful (Breton)). It's just that I haven't
actually really learned any of them except Russian and Swedish properly, and on Russian
opinions differ, although I would say I would get by quite well in Russian despite my
occasional manglings. But that's fine.

I wouldn't say I speak any of the other languages mentioned and particularly my active
Breton and Hebrew would make a native choke on their dinner. I just don't think anything
except my Swedish is really impressive for what I've managed (and in Swedish I just
profit hugely from cognates).
