Finally a decent day...

Active wave of Assimil - L25 went very well except for some accents here and there.

I also picked up a copy of French for Reading. Started/finished the first chapter today
and it seems pretty good so far. I already knew most of the cognates/partial cognates but
it was nice to get a refresher.

Linguaphone unit 8 (All Talk) finished and now onto the remaining 8 hours.

Sorry for the delay twopossums, I spent the last week in Hong Kong.

I like the French for Reading book a lot. I'm only on chapter 3 because of being on
holiday etc but the setup of the book makes a lot of sense.

Right now the subjects they are tackling aren't too interesting because they're using a
lot of cognates in the early stages. However, it is easy to read.

Speaking of reading, while I've avoided all Assimil, grammar and listening over the
past week, I managed to read my very first book in French.

Extremely simple as it was written in mostly the present tense and it's only 21 pages
long. However, for a first book and at 1.20 from Amazon, it was worth the purchase.

I listened to a few Assimil lessons today while walking down the street. Despite the fact
I'd just read lesson 80, it was way too fast for me to really comprehend. Same as lessons
78 and 79, completely forgot what it was that I'd studied.

I'm starting to worry about my tense recognition. While the passe compose seems OK I keep
getting confused with others. Maybe a grammar blitz is in order.

I have the first series of Friends in French now. Will see if I can understand anything
on there.

Those late 70s and early 80s lessons are pretty tough. I remember going over those ones more times than perhaps any others in the book.

As far as tenses, I found it useful to do some flashcards on the imparfait and futur simple. But I get bored of drills very quickly, so mostly I have built up my recognition of them through lots of listening.

Up to lesson 83 in NFWE. The late 70s and early 80s were really hard for me but this one
seems to have been a lot easier. Less grammar rules and more slang/colloquialisms being
used.

Did active wave lessons 31-34 this morning and mostly went great despite some spelling
mistakes and one or two verb conjugations.

Feeling much better today, hopefully the next 30 Assimil lessons will go smoothly and
I'll look at either reviewing them or heading onto 'Using French'.

French for Reading is a great book. Up to chapter 6. Pick it up if you can.

Had a little break recently, hardly any time for study.

Up to lesson 89 of New French with Ease. I found the lesson on uses of 'faire' quite
hard and have hardly studied the lessons, merely writing them out in both French and
English. Happy that Assimil should only take another month to finish the 113 lessons.

French for Reading - doing chapter 7 right now. Going pretty well though the reading
passage in chapter 6 was so boring I nearly didn't do it. I'm hoping the texts change
from scientific to more interesting subjects.

Anki usage is going ok, some of them match up to the methods/books I've tried - M.
Thomas, French for Reading, Assimil. Some of the words I simply don't remember despite
seeing them every day.

I managed my second book in French. It was a book for very young children about a dog
doing to a restaurant for his birthday. Apart from some unknown words, it was simple
enough and I was very happy once I finished all (18?) pages of it.

Now I have the Last of the Mohicans. It's a graded reader of only about 1000 words.
Only 3 pages in but doing ok, again increasing my vocab is the biggest issue so far.

Unexpected laziness has meant I've done very little the past two weeks.

Up to L92 of Assimil, active wave going quite well except for genders and accents.

Up to L28 of Grammaire Debutant, going rather well except for some dumb mistakes while
trying to rush too much.

For the first time I entered a French chat room and tried to speak to some other
learners. All were of a higher level than me but we had a nice little chat and
exchanged some pleasantries.

If anyone can help with the following, it would be helpful:

Roughly what level would this book be? It's a graded reader, 1000 words. Maybe A2?
The book isn't particularly hard for me, just coming across a lot of new vocabulary
which slows down my reading process. The grammar seems pretty simple though.
