As I was exchanging PMs with one of our guardian angels, I was starting to wonder if we should clarify how learners could interact with them on linguistic matters. Certainly I don't think that we should expect all guardian angels to be like Maрк who was a pioneer or model of an involved guide by regularly checking and commenting in log entries by that team's members. On the other hand, I'm not sure if firing PMs to guardian angels every time a question comes up is that feasible (especially if that guardian angel can be a point of contact for more than half a dozen people in the team). That angel's Inbox could fill up in a hurry.
I can see a few approaches, and I'm requesting comments to sort it out as best we can before things start officially. 1) Post questions about the target language(s) in the team's thread so that anyone can answer after having seen it. 2) Post questions about the target language(s) in the log entry with the hope that anyone reading it will act on it (in theory this is almost the same as 1) especially if team members read each other's logs regularly (if not frequently)) 3) Send PMs to the guardian angel(s) if no one responds to the request in the open after a few days 4) Continue as it's often done by posting questions in the relevant sub-forum (usually "Specific Languages" or "Questions about your Target Languages" rather than in "Language Learning Logs") I also think that while the guardian angel idea is good, I wouldn't want to exclude other native speakers from chiming in or adding their two cents if by chance they feel that they can answer something (after all this is a strength of this forum). With Team Żubr, it seemed to work OK with Gosiak, tozick, pesahon and Theodisce acting as an informal committee but each offering their input for Polish at different times when they came upon relevant posts or requests. I think Chung's suggestions seem very sensible. It would not be feasible for someone to answer multiple PMs with linguistic questions from several members of a team, as well as taking part in a team him or herself. Besides, then the others on the team lose out on an opportunity to learn.

It is already very common for people to read the logs of those who are studying their language and to offer hints and tips. I see this simply as way to formalize that relationship. And I hope it won't make other native speakers feel unwelcome. Anyone can still post in other people's logs. I don’t think we can expect anyone to spend all their time combing the logs of another team as well as their own, nor can we bombard them with questions. I think if you need specific help with something, I think it is probably still best to post the question in the relevant sub-forum. I think agreeing to be a godparent means promising to have a look at or skim the logs of your godchildren at least now and then and give a bit of advice, but not necessarily to answer every little question all the time or to correct everything they write. (There is lang-8 for that.) Of course, Cristina is already rallying her Vikings and preparing them for battle with weapons and a fight song, but I think most people will just stand back and watch, and only step in when their charges are about to run out into traffic. It was mrwarper who came up with the concept, so he might like to define it further or perhaps disagree with me entirely.
