She is however not the easiest in term of vocabulary, because she likes to vary. When I read my first A.C in Russian, it was driving me mad, that whenever I expected the word he said/she said after a sentence in direct speech, that was never the word I found. It would be he exclaimed, sighed, asked or agreed. It is part of what makes me like A.G so much, but as a beginner it was a royal pain in the back. |

I have never read Agatha Christie, but I might try it. Most of my favorite authors (in English) do this, too. Can you imagine how boring a book would be if they said said every time someone said something? Some authors use A LOT of vocabulary. The ones that don't, usually write stuff that's too boring for me to read. :)

Oh, I am sorry you missed out on it, we would have loved to have you there. It was great to have somebody new turn up though, Expugnator. We were discussing having it at the regular 8 o'clock nest time to be able to include our American members.
Would it make sense to have a special newbie session, where the new members got an assurance that they did not have to speak Russian if they did not want to? Last year we read out texts. Those of you who have Assimil could read out the lesson you are on there, and if you don't you could read out some other text of choice. Last year we did mainly introductions for the first four sessions, and there is really nothing to be worried about :-)
