I finished! I thought I was going to push right into the new year, but my reading
speed increased dramatically after book 90. Almost all were excellent ... French literature has turned out to be even richer than I imagined. And there were some, like Balzac, that I did not like at first, gave up on, but really liked when I came back to them when my French was better. *** Rank with my favorite books of all time, either for the power of the writing, the emotional impact the book had, or if it will come to define a place or event for me (e.g., I will always view the Iranian revolution through the eyes of Marjane Satrapi). It's done! I have just finished watching "100 films" in French!
I had just started very recently, in May this year, with very few listening experience and even less skills. Since then, I primarily watched dubbed TV series, partly with subtitles. Among others, I watched - Grey's Anatomy (1 season, with subtitles) - Fringe (3 seasons, with subtitles) - Doctor Who (3 seasons, without subtitles) - Bones (1 season, with subtitles) - Gilmore Girls (1 season, with subtitles) and tons of 'Miscellaneous' on French and Wallonian television, of which I liked best the few episodes I watched of 'Monk'. My listening skills have moved to around 50 % in average, and I am really greatful to the initiator of this challenge, as I wouldn't have watched as much without. I continued using subtitles until the very end, which I believe is the correct way for me, as I thus had the chance to look up unknown words, which was unavoidable in the beginning and is still pushing my French to higher levels. Looking forward to participating the next challenge... :-) Could there be a better Christmas present?? 3 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I'm still working on my 1/2 challenge, but reading with renewed interest. I'll post it in 2014 when I finish. Pleased
for everyone who's participated. I can really tell a great difference in my abilities to read and especially my listening comprehension. I stopped recording my listening time after I finished the 1/2 challenge part, but continued to look up interviews & watch documentaries on youtube, probably to the detriment of my reading! Looking forward to the rest of break, when I can read for longer periods uninterrupted by work ... 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

With less than eight hours to go I just finished my Super Challenge in German:
10150 pages and 302 movies. I'm going to enjoy a bottle or two of cava later tonight! Solfrid: Many thanks for suggesting and organizing this challenge. I came across HTLAL and the challenge right at the beginning of my effort to learn German and it's been an enormous help. The challenge has really become the core of my self-study method. I have gone from A1 at the start to somewhere in B2 in my TL for reading and listening. So many many thanks. Is there going to be a list of all those who finished and what their challenges were? I am very curious to see what other people have done. A full list of the books and films I have read can be found on my blog.
