My progress is on my log, I am progressing well with those Advanced Super Challenges, I have dived in reading recently. The rest is going slower (50/50 German and Spanish).
A question about the rules. With the films, I am quite sure about my counting. Sometimes I may be a little bit too lenient but other times I am perhaps too strict with counting. So in the end, I am sure I'm quite accurate. But the books. If it is above 500 pages, it counts as two. But could books longer than 800 pages count as three? It would make sense but I am unsure. I am counting them as two now so no wonder I am progressing so slowly. Or I should choose shorter books, I know. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Count each 100 pages as a book. So a 500 page book would be worth 5 books. An 800 page book would count as 8. :) Edited by Kerrie on 01 February 2013 at 10:04pm 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Really? Hmm, to not feel bad, I will count every 250 pages as a book. From now. But pages over any 250 will not be taken to the next book, of course. This could be a way to not feel cheating and not get discouraged by slower progress than I deserve. Thanks for the idea and encouragement, Kerrie.

Everyone else is counting 100 pages as a book. It wasn't my idea. :)

Yes, the original was to count a book as a book, over 500 as 2 books, over 750 as 3 books and so on without anything carrying over. However, after we started we reevaluated and decided counting 100 pages as a book is a much more realistic goal. But you can count whichever way is better for you. After all this challenge is about everyone making progress on their own goals. Even if we're doing it together in the end we each have our own needs. :)

Thanks. To still feel the challenge, and therefore stay motivated, I chose something in betwwen. 200 pages per book. :-)

January is going well, as far as my Spanish is concerned. I have returned to watch the telenovela "Angela" and
often understand 80-90% of the conversation. However, the other day, I watched a segment of "El Gordo y La Flaca" and was quite lost :(. My reading is coming along nicely, also. I have completed almost 300 pages of La Ciudad de Las Bestias. EMK, you suggested reading at least 10 pages a day, and I thought I could commit to that. Turns out, I usually am able to do more, if I just sit down and start! Peliculas: 20/50 (40%) 19. Angela Capitulos 7 & 8 20. Angela Capitulos 9 & 10 I feel renewed & more motivated than ever to complete the 1/2 challenge. Hope everyone else has had a good start this year. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I'll give an update at the end of February. It's my goal for the month to finish the audio/film part of the Spanish challenge (89/100 currently) and read a few more books for Spanish.
My daughter challenged me to a Harry Potter race. She's halfway through the fourth book, and I'm just starting the third. I am **hoping** to finish #3 and #4 by the end of the month, although I know that is really going to be pushing it. She thinks she has an advantage, since she is reading them in English (and I'm reading them in Spanish). But she has no idea how long the last four books are. Plus, I have complete control over her bedtime, so I can always cut her reading time short. :D 2 persons have voted this message useful |
