Day 75
Weekend of arrival of the new adopted kittens.
They’re super-cute, but I do not expect them to be of any real assistance with Spanish or kanji learning. They do seem pretty interested in watching me practice the ASL alphabet….

Days 76 - 90 - aka los días de los gatos
Little accomplished language-wise. Distracted by new pets, two seven-month old rescue
kittens. Had to spend a fair bit of time with them sorting out who between me and the
kittens the boss is (hint, it is not me), and the balance of the time either hunting up
bandaids for numerous scratches (I'm not a fan of declawing in general, although I now
see the attraction) or trying to figure out why exactly I am the only human in the
household who gets stuck with extraction duties concerning the aggressively-utilized
litter box.
I did work my way through FSI Spanish, Programmed Course units 6 and 7. This
interesting quote from Unit 7 in relation to working on pronunciation with one's book
closed: "It is a well-known fact that you cannot be as accurate as you could be in
your pronunciation if you are looking at the printed page". While this does not
accord with my preference (I really like to see something for it to make sense to me
and get internalized), I am prepared to concede that perhaps these FSI folks knew what
they were talking about.

Day 91
Spanish
PMP: Basic Spanish, units 11 and 12, learning that "Spiderman sube mucho" and,
straight from the "best be prepared just in case you need it" department, that the
Spanish for "martians" is los marcianos
FSI, Programmed Course unit 8 (partial) - the unit begins using, without explaining, a
past tense (the preterite, I learned from Spanish.about.com). I fully expect that the
lack of explicit discussion is part of the teaching approach, but I am way more
comfortable having some context. So I purchased McGraw-Hill's Practice Makes Perfect
Spanish Verb Tenses, which I will work through concurrently with PMP Basic Spanish and
as a reference when needed to FSI, Programmed Course
ASL No thing.
kanji Twice as much as ASL, sadly
