Awesome accomplishment Peter!
I'm curious how you integrated the book into your studies with FSI French.

Thanks Luke,
The book which I believe is exactly like online FSI French is a print-out of all the audio, some very brief
explanations and a few text only exercises, as far as I can tell it is exactly the same as the FSI online stuff...
Sorry you prob already knew that, so onto your question.
All I did was refer to it as a guide, verifying what I was hearing was what I thought I was hearing, or in some
cases to verify what I couldn't work out what I was hearing. Although, for the most part it really was like an
audio course as I certainly didn't look at the book continuously. However I felt more comfortable using the
book as a guide so that I could refer to anything in the book or in a dictionary if required (knowing what the
word was from print). The only written activities I did amounted to writing answers to the written exercises (ie I
didn't write out the audio-based exercises), and I added any new words I was unfamiliar with to my French
SRS flashcard deck, which wasn't that many. Then why do the course? Well it was really valuable in working
on accent, rhythm, pace, and listening. As well as increasing one's confidence with an array of phrases and
conjugations that I hadn't practised before despite being aware of them.
As a side note I didn't move on from any of the exercises before I felt like I had not made any errors. This
meant the early units I only had to go through many exercises once, units 3 & 4 prob progressed to me doing
some activities twice and a few more than that and the last units I was repeating more than that generally
speaking.

Thanks Peter,
That sounds a lot like how I've done it. I haven't started putting FSI vocabulary in Anki yet, but as you said, there haven't been that many unknown words.

You're kind of inspiring me to get back to FSI. I last left it in March in the middle of
Unit 7. From my experience up to that point, it will be really worthwhile to complete
the whole thing. But I actually think giving myself time between units to allow the
material to seep in, then reviewing the previous unit before starting the new one, will
be more effective over time. Hmmm.... I'm really thinking while writing here.... perhaps
I should set a goal to complete one unit per month.

I agree wholeheartedly and happen to be in the middle of Unit 7 myself. Tape 7.6 I believe, which has a lot of object pronouns. Je vous écoute, etc.
A unit a month is not a crazy goal. In a way, I think of FSI as covering the grammar of 2 years of French at the university, in that by the end of the 2nd year, one should be learning nuance to grammar, rather than the basics.
So, 24 units, 24 months.
Allons-y! En route! Bonne route!

Glad to serve as some inspiration... And yes I think you guys should do FSI. One course isn't going to
interfere much with your SC.
I made a list of my French courses the other day... it's kind of scary (hence why I took Jeffers advice at the
beginning of the SC and have returned to doing my courses along with some SC activity at the same time).
This list is only courses I haven't completed (altho I have completed Colloquial French before but am not
reviewing it). The 3 graded levels i've categorized into are just my idea to simply break the list up a little.
The DAUNTING LIST!!!
