Got back from vacation on Friday.

DEUTSCH
Pimsleur IV - I did lessons 7 and 8 during the drive. I may have mistyped in my last post because I'm pretty sure I had lesson 6 already done.

Hugo - I started wk 11 yesterday, memorized some vocab and went through the content.

Assimil - I had to skip lesson 61 (half of it is missing from my copy) and went right to lesson 62 last night. It went pretty well; I understood what was going on after one or two listens. I also translated lesson 12.

Penguin - I finished the first chapter while on vacation.

DeutscheWelle - I finished teil 2 of section 12 (A2.1) last night

Didn't get much done in the past couple of days (busy)

DEUTSCH
Pimsleur IV - Did lesson 9 this morning/afternoon

Hugo - Nichts

Assimil - Nichts

I got myself a couple of materials and a gameplan so I'm going to give it a go starting tomorrow. Progress will probably be slow since German will come first, but it will be fun to sink into this language, I'm excited.

Today was a pretty German-filled day. Even got started on some Norwegian.

DEUTSCH
Pimsleur IV - Finished lesson 10

Hugo - Nichts

Assimil - Finished lesson 63 (Wiederholung und Erklärungen). Usually I blow through these but this one was pretty informative. I learned the difference between "als" and "wenn" (als = event that happened only once in the past; wenn = event happening in present or future). I also refreshed some topics that I haven't used in a while. It's funny; I notice many, many times that one of my learning mediums always seems to go over a topic that I was just introduced to in another medium. I mean, something new will come up in Pimsleur (for example) and later that day I find that that same thing is explained in depth in Hugo or Assimil. It's like everything is synced, pretty cool. I also translated lesson 13, it went well.

Live Lesson - Had a lot of speaking practice today. Meine Lehrerin gave me some materials on the Passive tense and the whole change in written German today, which I will go over during the week.

I feel like I've been at a plateau for a while (maybe with little improvements here and there). Something should break through soon and jump me up to the next level, I'm feeling it.
============================================================ ==============
NORSK
I finally got started on Norwegian today.

Hugo - Went over some of week 1; pronunciation and definite/indefinite articles.

Teach Yourself (Conversational) - Part 1 of Conversation 1. I treated it kind of like Assimil: Listen a few times, repeat the lines individually, translate from English, take on the roll of one of the speakers in the dialogue, I had a lot of fun with it.

I started off today's Norwegian session with Hugo (I figured I should get a brief overview of the grammar before jumping into conversations/dialogue). It was super dry and boring and I started to ask myself "should I really invest time into this? When will I ever be able to use this language?" really just doubting my interest. Then I started the Teach Yourself and I was hooked. I should've followed my own advice: NEVER START WITH GRAMMAR! So I think I will continue with TY until I start questioning the grammar structures, then I'll jump back into Hugo. All in all, I can really see myself investing time into this language, but it will be a challenge finding ways to practice it (I don't think I've ever met anyone that speaks Norwegian in my whole life - but then again, I never looked).

A pretty good day

DEUTSCH
Pimsleur IV - Finished lesson 11 earlier today. I might have to revisit it, I was quite drowsy during the car ride so I'm not sure how much of it actually stuck. Pimsleur is usually pretty good about refreshing the material from previous lessons though, so I'll just keep moving on.

Hugo - Nichts, I'm planning on getting some done tomorrow.

Assimil - Finished lesson 65 (lesson 64 was missing so I had to skip it). I spend a lot of time on it, especially the reading part. I read it out loud a whole bunch of times, trying speak fast and natural. No translation today, lesson 14 was Wiederholung und Erklärungen. I just glanced over it, it went over stuff I've already internalized a long time ago.

I should get started on my random vocab again. My plan was to hold off on vocab (except for Hugo) to focus on grammar and sentence structure, but I feel I'm pretty behind on my vocab. I could've learned so many new words by now...

Haven't done much the past couple of days but I've done some.

DEUTSCH
Pimsleur IV - Completed lesson 12 on my commute. I didn't have work yesterday so no driving to listen to a lesson.

Hugo - I did a little in Hugo today, I believe section 62. It went over turning adjectives into nouns. It's much easier in German than in English (at least so far).

Assimil - I started on lesson 67 last night but didn't feel much motivation to finish it. I also didn't do any Assimil tonight.

I'm in a weird stage right now. Some things are starting to click better; subjunctive clauses seem to be coming more naturally. I could always do them but I would had to think about them for a sec. The general odd sentence structure of German is beginning to feel more natural as well. However, there are other areas that I feel quite stagnant in. I suppose I'm at a point now where the learning curve has shifted and progress comes slower, but it will come.

I'll have bunch of time on Sunday (and Monday), so I'll grab a large coffee and do some serious study then. Tomorrow I'll be too busy to study anything.

NORSK
TY - I completed Part 1 of Conversation 2 last night.

Last night I messed around with a site that was suggested to me earlier in the week (I forget the name, it's in my favorites) and it looks like it'll be very useful. I just ordered Sverre Klouman's book and obtained the audio files. The book should come mid next week (hopefully). Then I will pursue Norwegian a bit more as it will be nice to have a structured program.

Watched about 20 mins of Hitler's Geheimwaffenchef on ZDF.de. Every now and then I get excited when I can understand a good amount of something I watch, but lately I've been in a "listening slump" and am having a hard time with it. I understood some words and only a few ideas from this, but nothing to boost confidence.

DEUTSCH
Pimsleur IV - Between Sat and Sun I completed lessons 13 and 14

Hugo - Finally got back to some Hugo. Worked on wk 11 a bit, through section 63. A lot about subjunctive clauses and word order. It seems like a big topic that was just brushed over in this book, but at least I'm now more aware of the presence of some of this stuff.

Assimil - I went over lesson 67 and it was pretty tough, mainly because it is starting to introduce more complex sentences (3-4 clauses). My plan is to spend the next couple of days revisiting older lessons (and doing the exercises, since I usually skip them), redo lesson 67 and continue.

Things are starting to get tough, but in a good way. I'm starting to get into 3+ clause sentences and though they are tough, once I get comfortable with them I feel like I'll have broken through to a new level.

I watched Blutsschwestern auf ZDF. I actually understood a fair amount, which boosted my confidence. I wrote down a list of words/phrases that I couple recognize (by sound) and translated then. I will begin making vocab lists again of the words/phrases I learn from movies/shows, that used to really help me.

No Pimsleur or Hugo today

Assimil - I went back to lesson 20 and started translating the sentences from Übung 1 (from the answers in English) and doing the exercises in Übung 2. I finished through lesson 27 and plan on doing this for 7-10 lessons a day until I reach lesson 67, then I will continue with the regular lesson plan. So far it has been good for refreshing some of the vocab I haven't used in a while.

I feel like Assimil is a goldmine but it has to be used beyond the 100 lessons. After I finish it (I still have quite a few lessons to go) I will still carry the book around with me and randomly do some translations and read the stories just to keep everything fresh and to pick up on things I may have missed before.

I created a new Random Vocab list on Quizlet (30 terms) that I will practice and add to over the week. I've been getting strong in a lot of areas but have not been keeping up with my vocab, so that is my weak point at the moment.

Haven't posted in a few days, but I've been studying

DEUTSCH
Pimsleur IV - Just finished lesson 17 this afternoon

Hugo - Nichts

Assimil - Finished the exercises up through lesson 36 so far. This is taking longer than I though, but it's a good refresher.

Live Lesson (Tues) - Went over passive. I later cracked open my grammar workbook and when through a whole bunch of passive voice examples, since this is area of the language I am not too familiar with. I will continue to go over and practice it until I internalize it.

I belong to the local library, which I haven't used in 4-5 years (forgot I had it) and realized they have German movies. I picked up "The Lives of Others" and "Good Bye Lenin"; I will watch them either Sunday or over the week. I hope they have a lot of others since it would be nice to get more movies/experience under my belt. They do have a few Harry Potter books which is nice (the whole Harry Potter thing annoys me, but if it means practicing my German then hell yeah, I'll do it!).
