Which method is that?

It's my own that I created. Put a bunch of words into your flash card program (Anki, Quizlet, regular paper cards, etc), I usually do about 50 at a time but do whatever you can handle.

1) Go through showing the German first, saying each German word out loud and the English meaning out loud once it is revealed. During this time, create your own mnemonics to help you remember the words, the mnemonics are important, if you don't use them yet I highly recommend starting since they make vocab come much easier and kind of fun. Do this twice.

2) Do the same thing but in reverse (starting with English). Do this twice. I usually do steps 1 and 2 while pacing back and forth, on my phone or tablet. Maybe it's just me, but walking while doing it helps me focus more.

3) Grab a notebook, start with the English words first and both say it out loud and write the German word (before you flip the card). If you can't remember, no problem. Just make note of it and go over again, maybe even write just that word a few times before continuing.

4) (at a later time), repeat step 3. Try to do it again later in the day, then again the next day and then again maybe at the end of the week. If you don't come up with the words immediately then just keep reviewing with step 3.

All in all, steps 1-3 takes maybe 20 mins. Repeating step 3 only takes a couple of mins, depending on how many words. Like I said, I can remember just about every word from when I used to do this and I haven't looked at them since. Minimal maintenance required, but future reviews couldn't hurt.

I was sick today (stomach bug of some sort) but got a fair amount done, none the less (no Pims)

Assimil - did the exercises up to Lektion 54, reviewed vocab. I really have to get back to the lessons; a little over 30 lessons to go and I want to make sure I'm done with all of the passive phase before classes start, since my study time will be drastically minimized.

Rosetta Stone - I worked on 2.4.2 earlier.

Subjunctive (Konjuktiv) - I spent a lot of time going over Konjunktiv I and II today, which cleared a lot of things up. I must've been over-complicating it this whole time since it really is simple.
============================================================ ==============
ITALIANO
Hugo - I did about half of chapter 1, really easy stuff. I did get a few vocab words out of it though.

Assimil - Just finished lezione 8

I also started some vocab lists in Quizlet.

Pimsleur IV - Finished lesson 20 earlier. Now that I've familiarized myself with Konjunktiv II, all the lines that I once had trouble with are so easy now.

Hugo - I had some downtime at work and read over some stuff from week 11. Tomorrow I'll take some time and do some serious study on it.

Assimil - I started doing that actual lessons again. I went in depth with lesson 67 (even broke out the old white-board and color markers) and really got a good handle on it. The 3-4 clause sentences used to seem mind-boggling, but I can definitely manage them now. I also translated lesson 15 with no problem.

Live Lesson - We went over classifying noun genders (basic stuff but definitely helpful stuff that I wasn't too familiar with before). z.B. All car manufacturers take DER, all boat and plane manufacturers take DIE (except der Autobus), days, months and seasons take DER. She also gave me an article about pre-Wiedervereinigung (reunification) that I will translate over the week.

I had a client come in to my work today (that I had no idea was born in Germany) and start talking German to me (my coworker told him I'm a Deutsch fanatic); it caught me off-guard and it was good because I was able to jump right in and I felt very natural speaking. I'm really surprised at how many native German speakers there are around my area. I have to get myself a new job soon and one of the things I will miss the most is how many people I could speak German with where I work now.

ITALIANO
Pimsleur I - Did lesson 4 earlier. This is really basic stuff and though I might be wasting my time with it and should move way ahead, I strongly believe in reinforcing the basics. I was thinking about dumping the lessons into Audacity and doing the cut-silence to make the lessons shorter so I would knock out a couple each day.

GOAL COMPLETED - I stated in the first post of this log that my goal by the end of the summer was to become B1 according to the DW online test and I just did it last night. I know that this is just a simple online test and its accuracy is questionable, but I was still pretty excited about this. At this rate, I hope to be a solid actual B1 by the end of the summer (before classes start), though I won't know for sure without proper testing.

I'm going to see how my German study habits will be with all of the classwork I will have over the semester, but I want plan on traveling up to NY to take the official Goethe Institut Exam for B2 next summer.

-----------------------------------------------------
Today was an awesome day (for German); I watched a show, did Assimil and Pimsleur and felt very natural with everything. Even the longer sentences made sense to me in a pretty natural way.

Pimsleur IV - Completed lesson 21 today, good lesson.

Hugo - I didn't get into Hugo like I though I was going to. I think I'm going to put Hugo on the backburner again; between that and everything else it's just too much vocab to try and handle all at once, plus the later chapters are very rushed so I feel it would be a better review. I will hopefully have Assimil done by mid August, in which I will start it up again. I also have Hugo Advanced so I feel I can get a lot out of both of those, but it's just too much between everything else right now.

Assimil - Completed lesson 68, translated lesson 16. A very good lesson. Toward the end of lesson 68, the guy in the dialog (Onkel Kurt) just starts rambling pretty fast and nonstop, I was very surprised that when I was able to pick up on almost everything he was saying on the first listen.

RS - I completed lesson 4.2 today. I may start 4.3 tonight, but probably tomorrow.

I meant to take an in-depth look at prepositions today to really try and master them, but I just didn't have time. I hope to get around to it tomorrow.

Vocab - I added to and studied my vocab list as usual. I'm planning on starting a new strategy: Once I reach 100 words on one vocab list, I will either write 100 sentences or a story or something that uses all of the words, then post it up on HTLAL for corrections.

No Italian today. I may knock out an Assimil lesson after this post.

Pimsleur IV - I have about 5 mins left on lesson 25; will finished tomorrow

Assimil - Finished lession 71 earlier and translated 19. Keine Probleme

I've been intensively studying prepositions lately, I'm really trying to get these down (along with all of their uses and variations). I spent the past few days going over accusative prepositions, will start dative tomorrow.

I've been doing a lot of listening lately and my listening comprehension is getting much better.
