I spend probably on average about an hour and a half a day, maybe more: 30mins with Pimsleur during my morning commute, about 30 with Assimil at night and maybe 30 mins with Hugo. Sometimes I skip Hugo and Pimsleur for a day or two, others I do a live lesson or watch German TV/movies, but I always do Assimil.
Yeah, I saw from your log that Hugo gets pretty rough around week 9. I'm hoping that between the different grammar books I have that I can go between them to make sense of the grammar points.

GERMAN
Pimsleur III - I got 2/3 of the way through lesson 27 (got home faster than expected, will finish tomorrow).
Hugo - I went through half of the vocab from week 8 yesterday and today and tackled half of the week 8 content today at work (had some downtime). My new strategy for Hugo is put all of the vocab from a given week into Quizlet before I start it, memorize it then do the actual week. This way I can focus on the lesson without having to flip back and forth and it will give me practical exposure to the vocab I memorize. I plan to have week 8 finished on Saturday.
Assimil - Just finished lesson 40. This was a nice lesson, one of the ones that make me feel more confident, as opposed to the lessons that are a bit overwhelming.
Meine Lehrerin had printed out some German articles for me during the last lesson; I translated half of one last night. It was pretty cool to learn new German terms (basic economic terms) while also learning a bit about Germany's socio-economic state.
============================================================
FRENCH
Hugo - I did some of week 2 during my downtime at work. It was just basic conjugations of verbs and the 3 ways to phrase/ask a question. Learning this basic stuff for French makes me realize how far I've come in German.
============================================================
I've definitely got the language bug; I've been really interested in learning Norwegian lately and was doing some research on it earlier. It's just a thought for now, I won't do more than 2 languages at once otherwise my time will be spread to thin. Maybe I'll start it once I'm solidly proficient in German (which will be a while from now). Then again I'm also forgetting that I'll be taking on Schweizerdeutsch at that point.
============================================================
APRIL CHALLENGE
I'm participating in the April Challenge. I think I will fall short of my Assimil goal (30 lessons) by 5 or 6 lessons. But I'm sure I'll finish Pimsleur III, I'm sure I've exceeded the 150 vocabs words already, I haven't done RS so I guess that's out, I'll have 2 articles translated by my next live lesson (May 1), and though I haven't been actively trying to memorize the 10 phrases (I did a couple in the beginning of the month) I have passively picked up at least that number by this point.

Didn't do much today. I wasn't feeling it so I had a really light learning day.
GERMAN
Pimsleur III - Finished lesson 27
Hugo - I didn't do any actual work in the book but I went over my vocab lists for week 8
Assimil - I took the night off from Assimil
I also did some more translating of the previously mentioned article.
========================================================
FRENCH
I don't know how to say it in French so I'll say it in German: Ich habe nichts gemacht!
========================================================
WEEKEND GOALS
I have some time this weekend so I figure I'll set myself some goals.
GERMAN
-Finish week 8 in Hugo and do a quick review of all previous weeks
-Do lessons 41 and 42 (review lesson) in Assimil
-Do lesson 28 in Pimsleur III
-Finish translating article
-Watch German movie (or German show)
FRENCH
-Finish and memorize week 2 and memorize all vocab, review weeks 1 and 2
-Do lesson 7 in Pimsleur I
-Work on RS
It seems like a lot but I can probably knock most of it out on Sat alone.

Okay so I wasn't able to accomplish all of my weekend goals (had an essay for graduation I had to type up plus a friends birthday took up most of my Sunday).
GERMAN
Pimsleur III - Finished lesson 28 yesterday
Hugo - I pretty much finished week 8 (and went over vocab) but I did not get a chance to do the quick review
Assimil - Did lesson 41 last night, did not do 42 yet
Translation and movie/show..... didn't get a chance to do those either
============================================================ =========
FRENCH
Pimsleur I - I mistyped on my last post, it was actually lesson 6 that I was up to. I did it this morning during my walk.
Did not get a chance to do Hugo or RS.
============================================================ =========
THIS WEEKS GOALS
GERMAN
Pimsleur III - Finish level III, move onto Advanced (I only have 2 lessons of III left)
Hugo - Make it at least half way through week 9 (I looked ahead, it seems like a pretty big chapter)
Assimil - Get up to lesson 45 (it's my birthday week, I'll be out of commission for a few nights)
For Live Lesson - Finish translations (2 small articles) and compile a small list of questions to ask meine Lehrerin
FRENCH
Pimsleur I - Get up to lesson 9
Hugo - Finish week 2, start on week 3
Assimil - None this week, but I want to start next Monday; I think I'll be ready at that point
Definitely not a huge list, but like I said, es ist meine Geburtswoche und ich werde für ein paar Tage beschäftig sein.

Happy Birthweek Pat :)
How are you finding Pimsleur as compared to Hugo and Assimil?

Thanks Troy!
Pimsleur is definitely one of the main staples of my routine. It's great for practicing things you would actually say in a conversation or real life situation. When I speak with natives I use most of what I learned from Pimsleur as the foundation and add in stuff that I've learned from all other sources to really make the words my own. If you aren't using it I would highly, highly recommend getting your hands on it somehow (maybe a local library); unless you can afford it, or find it by other means.
The value of the main materials I use is:
Pimsleur - Speaking, conversation, things I would actually say when talking to someone, definitely lacking in the reading aspect but that's where Assimil and readers come in. It has a small amount of grammar, which pertains to the stuff you are saying with the tape but definitely not enough to count as a grammar lesson.
Assimil - Well rounded exposure, especially good for reading and listening, a bit lacking in the speaking aspect, but that's where Pimsleur comes in.
Hugo - A good source for learning grammar. It goes deep enough to give you a good explanation on the various grammar topics but not so deep that you're drowning in over-analysis. I wish there was a supplemental exercise book that you could get along with it that follows the actual outline of the book, but I have a few grammar workbooks that I use to look up specific topics for practice if I need more exposure.
They all cover different areas so I feel pretty well rounded with all three, plus my weekly lessons really help with live speaking/conversation.

I'm doing good with the weekly goals
GERMAN
Pimsleur Plus- Finished level III, now on to Plus (I stated "advanced" before). Got most of the way through lesson 1 but was too tired on my commute to finish; I didn't feel like I was gaining anything from it.
Hugo - Finished week 8, did a quick review and popped a lot of week 9's vocab into Quizlet
Assimil - Completed lessons 42 and 43
I also translated the two articles for my live lesson
============================================================ =
FRENCH
Pimsleur I - Completed lessons 7 and 8
Hugo - Haven't finished week 2 yet, will do tomorrow or Friday
Assimil - Still haven't started yet, planning on next week possibly
============================================================ =
BURNOUT
I have to admit, I'm starting to feel some burnout with German; not the language itself, of course, but learning new material. I think I'm going to make next week a passive week, where I will watch movies/shows, read and such, but not try to learn anything new, let everything sink in. I view it the same as weight lifting: every now and then you need to take a rest week where you do light exercises but don't exert yourself too much. When you come back after a week of rest your muscles are fully recovered and your drive to workout is replenished and you will often find that you are stronger than when you left off.
I'm debating on whether I should do this with French too, but probably not since I'm still in the early beginner stages and don't feel like it's stressing my mind too much. Plus I can't really do a passive week of French since I don't know enough to read or watch movies/shows yet, but it might be good to get better acquainted with the sound of the language without stressing too much about it's mechanics.

So I took a few days off from all language learning and I definitely think it served me well.
GERMAN
Pimsleur Plus - I restarted and finished lesson 1 this morning and felt much more sharp with it.
Hugo - I did the first half of week 9 last night and am doing well with the pertinent vocab
Assimil - I did lesson 44 last night and will do lesson 45 shortly after this post
Live lesson - I felt very sharp today. It was mostly a conversational lesson that went on for about 3 hours and I understood a lot of what she was saying (she talks a lot lol, which is definitely good) and I was able to respond fairly accurately and naturally, thinking little in English and letting my thoughts manifest in German.
============================================================ ======================
FRENCH
No French since my last post
============================================================ ======================
POST BURNOUT BREAK
I pretty much halted all language learning (despite watching a movie and a show the other day in German) for a few days and found that it did really good for me. I feel it let everything sink in. Either I was just sharp today for some random reason or I am really starting to get better.
