@Stelle: I read your blog entry about learning Spanish shortly after starting this
log. I found it very reassuring that you used the same resources (I wonder when I'll stop writing this word with 2s before the o...) as I. This week was far from perfect but much better than the last one. Turkish I'm halfway through the newbie podcasts from Turkish Teatime. The grammar of the dialogues is easy and the speed is no problem either. But they have some interesting vocabulary like "pirate ship", "blood bank" and "police station". I could of course save some time and just listen to the dialogue and look the words up. But I find the show interesting because there are often remarks about alternative ways to say something or about the way Turkish is spoken on the street. Spanish I started working with my grammar book but didn't get very far because I got distracted by little bits of information on various websites. My Anki deck doubled in size with example sentences and cloze deletion cards so the distractions weren't useless. Kulelyn, is this the first podcast you're using for Turkish? Are there other ones you'd recommend (not necessarily with lessons)?

Before my break I used to listen to a Turkish news podcast but I can't find it any more. And I don't think I'd be able to understand much at the moment. TTT is the best podcast I could find for my current level. There is also Turkishpod101 but I don't like them very much. You can subscribe to the TTT podcast for free and if you are interested in the Turkish dialog and the transcript you can get some free samples at https://turkishteatime.com/turkish-lessons/free/. They haven't produced new episodes for a year but you can download all the stuff for 10$. There is not much to report about last week. I had a horrible (and long) time at work and didn't manage to do more than necessary. The initial reason to improve my English has vanished. My skills are not needed since my superiors are obviously capable to communicate with business partners in English on their own. What a surprise. They can't even write their own language properly... That is no reason to stop learning, on the contrary. After hearing that those two managed to get a week of to go to a B2 Business English course that gets paid by the boss, I'm so fed up that I intend to look for a new job. You are right, mrwarper, my superiors aren't very superior, but I couldn't find a better word. Boss is
reserved for the CTO and CEO. English I managed not to do the challenge of the English team. I meant to but didn't find the time. I hope to do better next time. As always I had some input from tv shows, films and my moocs but I didn't do much more. Turkish I'll finish the newbie lessons of TTT this week. I listened to dozens of Turkish songs and read the lyrics of some of them. While I don't understand all of the texts I have to admit that I really enjoy this kind of input. Spanish There isn't much to say about Spanish. I view and episode of Destinos every day, do a lesson on Duolingo and listen to Coffebreak Spanish. I think about dropping Duolingo. Sometimes the site accepts errors because the software decides that I just missed a key but when I really just hit a wrong key it counts as an error. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I stopped fiddling around with Duolingo and podcasts that are supposed to teach me Spanish and made the jump to the real stuff. I might come back to Notes in Spanish because I like them, but for now I've chosen three podcasts from RNE. I understood maybe 60% of a one hour podcast with at least 4 different speakers and I managed to learn several new words and some geographic vocabulary just by listening. What I found amazing was that I had not much trouble with the speed. Next time I'll read the summary of the podcast before listening so I have better idea what's going on. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I've seen some episodes of Destinos and listened to podcasts for an hour every day. Because I brought some work home I didn't manage to work with my books. Turkish I listened to my podcasts and read an article on Wikipedia. I found some Turkish TV shows on youtube. I intended to view some of them on my lunch breaks but since last week youtube is blocked at work. Maybe I can download them and vıew them on my tablet. English I worked a bit on my grammar and had my usual input from movies, tv shows and some podcasts. 1 person has voted this message useful |
