Is it not the case that -issima is the superlative in Italian? For example generale means "general" and generalissimo is "the greatest general". I think Mussolini styled himself this way :p. um, it's similar and it CAN mean most beautiful but it can also mean an upgrade from just bella which sometimes means nice so it more often means very beautiful.
