How many words do you learn per day? | ||

Hi,
I was just curious as to how many words people learn in their target languages every day, presuming that you have a regular plan. I am focussing most of my attention on Russian at the moment, and am learning about thirty words per day. I was wondering how that would compare to some of the rest of you on the forum? I tend to just learn words as they come up in life.. if I don't know a word and I'm talking (either to a person or myself) I'll make a point to learn that word. The same goes if I read something or listen to something.
So it changes all the time. I might have days where I add a lot of words and have about 40 on my list... other days, maybe just 5-10... I previously just tried to learn masses of words, but it proved pointless. If they aren't words I'm actively using, they just don't stick! 15 persons have voted this message useful | |||

Back in school I certainly remember sitting with glossary lists and cramming in a good 30 words EACH of French, English and what not. A lot of it was forgotten later though.
Today maybe 10 realistically. But I have long gaps in between, so it averages out lower. Zerothinking, 250????!!! 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Most of the time, 0 to 1.
I'm a very poor vocabulary student - you probably know that if you read my log. Most of what I learn is slang anyway (I know, bad). However, when I had a regular plan, I averaged around 120 words a day, and did remember the words afterward. That said, I haven't done that in ages! 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

On days when I study between 10-30. If I studied more than I do, 100-150 would probably
be possible. Can't wait for a good vacation..I'm expecting to get at least 700 new words in my brain. At the very least I will usually do 5/day, just to keep the number rising. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Then why on earth didn't you continue having a regular plan when it was so efficient for you ?? Apart from that I don't find Zerothinking's 250 words/day out of reach. Using my current formate for wordlists (and thin pencils!) I can cram 250 words unto one sheet of paper, and after one repetition round I have learnt most of the words. However it would take a whole evening plus 1-2 hours the day after, and I couldn't do it day after day - it is somewhat taxing. I normally just do a few blocks of around sixty words daily, i.e. sometimes just 60, sometimes 120 or even 180 words, but in this last case I try to cover more languages. 12 persons have voted this message useful |
