I just remembered an old song that has a tinsy bit of a linguist element to it. It's quite a funny song. Do you know any songs that use a number of languages in the one song?
Paul Kelly - Every f*@cking city

I don't know, I like music that's in various languages, or particularly if it's a
combination of elements from several ethnic music styles. "Desert Rose" is a good
example of that, the way the Arabic interacts with the English at some points.
Sting & Cheb Mami - Desert Rose
(English & Arabic)
Sting & Pix Lax & I Muvrini - Terre
d'oru (English & Greek & Corsican)
Sting & Dalaras - Trelos yia sena
(English & Greek)
Wir sind Helden - The Geek Shall
Inherit the Earth (German & English; actually very little in English but arguably
the most important part of the song)
Spliff - Carbonara (German &
Italian)
Rammstein - Moskau (German &
Russian)
Florent Vollant - Miam Maikan (Loup
Blanc (French & Montagnais) - Montagnais is a native American language spoken in
Quebec. Florent Vollant was one part of Kashtin, a band that used to sing songs
entirely in Montagnais and without translation. I much prefer those rather than this
mixed song.
Khaled - Aicha (French & Arabic)
Les Colocs - Tassez vous de d'la
(French & Wolof, English subtitles)
Alan Stivell & Youssou N'Dour
(Breton & Wolof; has to be the most exotic combination ever tried)
Also, Andrea Boccelli sang "Vivo per lei" as a duet with various international singers,
always Italian + another language.
There are also many Chinese songs, particularly Chinese translations of Western songs,
that still involve a lot of English. I like Faye Wong's interpretation of "Superwoman",
it's called 多得他 (unfortunately
in Cantonese) and more passionate than the original.
Finally, the Lion King's "Circle of Life" song wasn't originally multilingual but a lot
of people have edited it to be so; and I've also seen two live renditions of the
multilingual song at Esperanto events.

Well, I was recently introduced to a hiphop project called Diversidad that used a series of languages.

English, Bosnian, Croatian, German, French, Portuguese, Swedish, Spanish. (There was a guy from Italy, but I really didn't get it - maybe it was some sort of dialect?)

There is an old Girl Scout song called "The More We Get together" which has verses in English, Danish, French, Swedish and some others.
I used to know a song in Danish that starts Hallo, Hallo, James - it's about the master calling home to see how things are (and things are NOT good!) - each servant speaks a different language and tells a little more of the story.

Oh yes, this is the sort of thing that I am very much interested in. When I write songs on my guitar, I often do something bilingual, to add interest to my songs. Plus I was inspired by a musician named Nevio.
Nevio sings in German, English and Italian. Many of his songs cross languages several times. A quick search on Youtube should yield many results for him.

Nice link, Danac! I've been listening to a lot of German and Russian or Turkish mixes recently, and am a long-time fan of French hip-hop, but this is even better. Lots of familiar faces too... :)
