I suspect when you think of "easier" verses "harder" the easier path is then to learn languages within families at first. This then gives both the tools and the confidence to go on to the unrelated and thus "foreign" or relatively "harder" language for the particular learner.
In other words, successfull attempts at "easier" familialy related languages then pave the way for later more challenging languages much better than an abandoned initial attempt at a "harder" unrelated language. At my level I would say that I would need that confidence built as I learn Spanish, to go on to improve and renew my German and or attempt a forth language. I would be more than pleased to obtain C1 in any. As it stands, it seems that most of the languages that I would be interested in are considered particularly "hard" for English speakers to learn. For me the hardest language was French, because it was the first language that forced me
to rethink how you learn languages. Before that I had always done it subconsciously, and my loss and subsequent need to recover my French forced me to reassess what I needed to do to speak fluent French. 1 person has voted this message useful |
