Inspired by the book and movie clubs, let's have a thread about sports too!
Post highlights, articles, your impressions, memes - anything will do!
Just remember to be nice even when it comes to rivalries.

Yay, I managed to start the thread while it was still December 15th in Moscow:) It is/was the birthday of one of my two favourite footballers, Roman Pavlyuchenko (Роман Павлюченко).
And I'm actually going to post a couple of videos in Russian, hehe.
Россия-Англия (Russia vs England)
Россия-Нидерланды (Russia vs Netherlands); same with an adorable non-native commentator; audio from the same match+cartoon video :D
Россия-Чехия (Russia-Czech Republic)
Tottenham vs Chelsea
That last one was my favourite Russian commentator :) he's on twitter btw, @VStognienko. And he hosts the program Планета футбола (football planet), which can be viewed for free if you're in Russia or use a proxy. It's basically a travel show, ie not just football.

LOL, love this topic.
Made me think of this confession by Gary Lineker. Kudos to the one who found the specific moments, haha.

Ahem, before we turn everyone off, here's something more refined.
For Técnicas de creatividad on Miríadax, I wrote about two sportsmen and which hemisphere predominates for them.
:) I'm going to post more videos with Luka Modrić (who is my other big favourite obviously, and better known right now), but here's one at least. (in Spanish - he plays for Real Madrid)
Finally, Christmas is coming!!! Benfica beat Porto yesterday, and instead of insulting the opponents, Benfiquistas just wished them a Merry Christmas. TBH I had to ask the friend who posted it what exactly they are chanting, although now that I know it's hard not to hear "que seja um bom Natal para todos vós".
I'm just trying to show some examples of what we can post here. Don't worry, I won't spam this thread :D

I'm not a huge football fan, but the World Cup was a great excuse to socialise and watch matches with my international friends. I have good memories of watching all of Italy's games in bars with various Italian friends. Great atmosphere. The Euro tournament in 2012 was similar.

Send it in, Jerome!
(basketball)
* Basically, a university basketball player in the U.S. breaks a backboard doing a
slam dunk. I don't know why I like this video so much; maybe because of the
announcer's call: "Send it in, Jerome!"
The greatest NFL Super Bowl play I
ever saw (American football)
This is not only the greatest Super Bowl play I ever saw, but perhaps the biggest
sports moment I saw. The catch itself was amazing (and the quarterback escape from a
tackle before that!), but it was also necessary; without it, the New York Giants lose
the championship. Because of it, they were able to win.
"Shut it down! Let's go home!"
(basketball)
Not really a memorable sports moment, but a great sports TV moment - for me. I don't
know... this always makes me laugh.
The story: Dirk Nowitzki, the German NBA basketball player for Dallas, is injured and
not playing in the game, but the TV station wants to interview him during the game.
During the interview, a good play happens, and Nowitzki becomes excited.

In 1981 Norway beat England 2-1 in a world cup qualifier, and the Norwegian radio commentator, Bjørge Lillelien went nuts. In this spot you can hear his rant, and here is a somewhat longer clip you also have comments from some English sport commentators and comedians.
What he says in Norwegian before starting naming famous Brits is the following:
"We are best in the world! Best in the world! We've beaten England, England, home of giants!"
PS. Norway winning against England in football seemed as unbelievable as winning against Russia (or the Soviet Union as it was back then) in ice hockey - nobody though it could be done, hence the reaction.
