I am just about to start learning Arabic and am thinking about about buying Mastering
Arabic 1 by Jane Wightwick and Mahmoud Gaafar for MSA, but am not sure what to get for
learning Iraqi Arabic which I want to learn because there's a lot of people who speak
that dialect or are at least from Iraq living around me and because it's supposedly
easier than MSA. So is Mastering Arabic a good book for learning MSA and what do you
guys think about Iraqi dialect learning material?

For Iraqi Arabic ,you can search for the free DLI courses in the net. There is a particular course there for this dialect.

Mastering Arabic seems to be a good book. Many members are using it. Be sure to search for reviews in Amazon. Many forum members are using it . So search for the thread "Arabic Study Group".

Amazon recommends this one. Sounds good to me, too.
But what about Pimsleur? I believe there's a new Pimsleur for MSA specifically, and their eastern Arabic course should be kinda OK for Iraqui as well (though I don't know really). Having these two extremely similar courses side by side could help to see both dialects in contrast.

A couple of us have formed a study group for Arabic (, the one linguaholic_ch mentioned). We're all beginners. We're all using different books. One of us is even using the book you've mentioned.
You're welcome to join us. :-)
Best of luck with Arabic!

Cetacea studied Arabic in Yemen. She rarely visits the forum these days, but if you pm her, she can probably recommend some books and other teaching materials to you.
