What outstands when learning a language much distant from yours (a non-Romance one, in
my case) is that you miss the vocabulary discount even for abstract words that are
assumed to be international. Those words tend to be highly frequent, especially in non-
fiction, newspapers. They also tend to look similar to each other (just like in my
native language or English, for example, as they are formed from inflection or
juxtaposition terms that render a concrete noun into an abstract one) and they tend to
cover a wider range of meanings and contexts than a concrete noun such as 'book'.
Therefore, it may be wise to sort them out in your mind. Maybe a list of the most
frequent abstract noun will already give you a boost on understanding news articles.
Consider these words:

condition
education
experience
repetition
development
issue
question
test
publication

Let me try with Georgian:

მდგომარეობა - mdgomareoba
განათლება - ganatleba
გამოცდილება - gamocdileba
გამეორება - gameoreba
განვითარება - ganvitareba
საკითხი - sak'itxi
კითხვა - k'itxva
გამოცდა - gamocda
გამოცემა - gamocema

A lot of them will have this -oba/-eba sounds and since the root to them is alien to my
knowledge, telling one from another will have to rely on serious focus. So, I find it
especially useful to learn to tell them apart in the beginning. Any experiences at this
respect?
